    I've done the opposite of mjl. I finally got a good set of starters and one good reliever to close, now I'm working on the lineup. My problem is I'm a little attached to Jose Altuve and Carloes Ruiz, even though their ratings are quite low.
    Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

        what i tried on this latest one is to draft two hitters first, for their badge bonuses, then bought a FA starting pitcher. i was thinking of getting at least one more SP, then back to hitters...

          Yes, at the lower levels, using RPs to move up in the daily draft to get the players with badges makes sense. At some level (which one I forget), you can buy badges with your game cash in the store.

          Remember, hitting milestones adds .08 to every hitter or pitcher on your team, so they're important to keep note of.

          eta: also I think there is zero reason to ever buy or train a RP, at least at the level we're playing at.
          Relievers will just become your old starting pitchers who start to fall behind better pitchers.


          I didn't mean to imply that using RPs to get new players in the draft is a bad idea. As you advance, these new players are higher levels than your old players, and if your old players are not going to help in milestones, then they should be the ones to go. Plus, as mentioned, they have badges. Pre-legend, you should aim for 3,000 hits, 500 HRs and 250 SBs from your best hitters, and 300 wins, 3000 Ks and 125 saves from your best pitchers. By the time you get to the legends level, many of your older players will no longer be competitive.

            Also, if your players hit the top of their training level, it costs 200+ RPs to promote them to the next level. If they're not helping in milestones, it makes sense to use your RPs to trade up and get better players.


            On my Facebook team (which is at Level 41), I have 3 or 4 pitchers with 50-70 saves, with 75 saves being the milestone. At this point, it doesn't make any sense to train them up, since their attributes are still poor. So sometimes you get forced to use inferior players just to get milestones, like I did this morning with Rube Foster. I had banked 20 daily games, so despite him being my worst pitcher, I made him my closer to get the 6 saves needed for 75. In the 20th game, he got the 6th save needed -- and then I immediately punted him in the draft for John Tudor. There was no way he was ever going to get any more saves for me, so hasta la vista.

              I'm level 13 right now, with a record of 192-45, batting 4.91, pitching 4.93. Among my possible opponents:

              Damien D, 4649-26, batting 10.77, pitching 9.87
              Matthew M, 1399-20, batting 7.13, pitching 7.13
              Rick S, 63-211, batting 3.30, pitching 3.44
              Elijah D, 3452-25, batting 10.06, pitching 9.69

              I don't see me enjoying this enough to play 4600 games at approximately 24/day, and certainly not without leveling. Is that really all that helpful?

                LOL. It changes. Not sure why these are your only opponents, but feel free to level up in comsecutive days if you feel it's getting stale.

                As far as Damien D., ya, he went overboard.

                  I joined a league because there weren't any obvious sharks in it. There were other opponents, but those stood out. I'm just wondering, does slow-playing that much at this level actually make a difference once you get to level 50?

                  (also I at least wanted to get to 15 so I could buy some badges.)

                    Here's the deal. At Level 51, you no longer have the daily draft unless you enter a league. And because you accumulate 6 WC legend coins by Level 51, you know every team has at least 2 Legends. So the competition will all be right there with you. Milestone bonuses you accumulate could become extremely helpful by the time you get to the legend level.

                      oh, I see. it's not that they're farming players, they're farming the milestone bonuses.

                      on that topic, I should really get someone in my lineup who can hit a home run occasionally. After 256 games, my team leader has 24 HR. I don't have anyone in my starting lineup with the HR trait. I do have a bunch of guys with OBP at or above .400, but that doesn't really count for anything on milestones.

                      also I went 16-2 in that league, and Mark Prior came within two outs of a perfect game but had to settle for a no-hitter.

                        As far as who can hits HRs, look more at their percentage attributes then what's in the diamond on their card. You should look for anyone who has a 10%+ HR attribute percentage.

                          revo - your advice about just clicking on the button again if you don't have any opponents you dominate has been a game-changer. i didn't realize it had that effect, which is pretty awesome. i think i've lost 1 daily game in two days, and that was one that i was a 93/7 favorite...

                              BTW, I'm playing the Franchise Football and Basketball and both are enjoyable. I'm in the Legends level of Basketball and my starting lineup is:
                              PG: Derek Fisher
                              SG: Ricky Pierce
                              SF: Drazen Dalipagic (Yugoslavia's best -- basketball has the best international players, yet baseball doesn't have the best Negro Leaguers)
                              PF: Maurice Stokes (despite being too young for him, he has a special place in my heart)

                                heh - my highest percentage of HR is aaron boone at 2.4% ...
