There was a John Buck era?

      • The word "era" gets overused by the media, especially for mediocre players ("the Tony Romo Era") and teams that contend but don't win it all ("The Patriots Era"). It's worse than using the word "dynasty" for a team that wins one title, or that's gone years without hoisting the trophy once.

        • Shea it ain't so!

          Mets signed RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka.
The news comes via CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, who writes that Matsuzaka "is expected to go right to the big leagues." Dice-K was released by the Indians on Tuesday after posting a 3.92 ERA and 95/39 K/BB ratio in 103 1/3 innings at Triple-A Columbus. He is doubtful to carry fantasy-relevance in New York.

          • Not horribly surprising considering the Mets had a hole in the rotation and no good internal options and Dice-K asked for his release from Cleveland, indicating that he had a major-league gig lined up.

And Harvey and Wheeler approaching their innings limit for the season. You might be pitching for the Mets in September.

                • Wasn't it just a month or so ago that the Mets were considering going with a six-man rotation? Now they may be down to four healthy SPs. Does Torres go back into the rotation, or has that idea been abandoned (asks the Torres owner)?

Torres is starting tonight, but they do like him better in the pen. But with Wheeler & Harvey nearing their shutdown limit, I wouldn't be surprised to see him spot start the rest of the year.

Actually Dice-K is starting tonight. Torres will most definitely be in the rotation at some point in September.

                        That's right, I was reading a 2-day old article which was pre-DiceK.

                        • So, do you think it's worthwhile to hang on to Torres on my reserve roster? I have him in two leagues.

It depends. He's not very good and pitching for the Mets means about a 10% chance to win, so it's your call.

                            • I'm in a very deep 12-team NL only, and Torres hasn't been owned all year, and I have the Betancourt opening, and I'm not exactly racing to grab him......

                              • Hefner is having his TJ surgery tomorrow. IMO this is a smart move by him--get it done, get the rehab started, allow more time for the (sadly) inevitable setbacks along the way. If it's what the Mets medical staff recommended, kudos to them for finally doing the right thing on a medical issue.
