Any update? Has Valdespin reported to Las Vegas? If not, is there any talk of putting him on the restricted list?Only the madman is absolutely sure. -Robert Anton Wilson, novelist (1932-2007)

Lots of rumors Choo is going to be a pretty big priority for the Mets this offseason since there is a need and a huge Korean population in Queens.

Shea it ain't so!
"In a move that could deal a death blow to one of the country's largest hedge funds, federal prosecutors announced criminal insider trading charges Thursday against SAC Capital, the firm run by billionaire investor Steven Cohen.
The indictment charges that the hedge fund was guilty of both "unlawful conduct by individual employees and an institutional indifference to that unlawful conduct."
The government alleges a pattern of insider trading that was "substantial, pervasive and on a scale without known precedent in the hedge fund industry."
The charges against SAC Capital, the hedge-fund firm run by Steven Cohen, follow a multi-year investigation and cases against a number of current and former SAC employees.
Cohen owns 4% of the NY Mets.

As some of you know, I went to a 51s game when I was in Vegas last month. High fences, very long to center, but short to the alleys and straightaway left and right. The ball simply flies there, although the night I was there it could have been due to the truly bad pitching staffs the 51s and Colorado Springs SkySox throw out (throw up?) there.Only the madman is absolutely sure. -Robert Anton Wilson, novelist (1932-2007)

Sandy Alderson has lost his mind: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/met...at-at-deadline
We've taken what seemed to be a fairly barren outfield at the beginning of the season and turned it over the last month into maybe the most productive outfield in baseball.

Alderson seems to be confusing some very short-term results with a prediction of future performance. While I will say that the current Met's OF situation is much, much better than the situation at the beginning of the year, and that it is currently producing very well, that does not mean that (a) it will continue to do well, or that (b) it doesn't merit further work.
Byrd is playing much better than he has in several years and he's 35. Lagares has been playing much better than his previous numbers would indicate. EY Jr. has stepped up his game. However, there are reasons why the latter two have not been highly regarded in the past, so short-term production from them should be taken with a grain of salt.
Don't get me wrong here. I am not saying that the current production can't continue. Just because someone is up there in baseball years, or hasn't been well thought of in the past, does not mean they can't do it now. However, these ARE the Mets and they are in NYC, the sports overreaction capital of the world.
And the reserve OF situation behind these three does continue to stink.Only the madman is absolutely sure. -Robert Anton Wilson, novelist (1932-2007)
