Indeed. Duda moved to 1B and Murphy went back to 2B. The OF is still a mess but I don't think they like Valdespin there anyway.

The Mets DFA'd Collin Cowgill to make room for EY.

At the very least, Valdespin is a great pinch-hitter, so there's always that. But if Alderson feels he's just too big for his own britches, there's probably a good number of teams who'd be willing to trade for him and start him. They could probably get a decent major leaguer for him at this stage. Maybe they could send him to Toronto for Bonifacio.

So why don't they? God knows they need the help! Frankly despite the total lack of offense they could use a good bullpen arm.

                • The Mets have a ton of high end pitching in their minor league coffers. Harvey/Wheeler is just the tip. In the next season or two they have Montero/Syndergaard and then after that Tapia, Fulmer, Matz, and Mateo. At some point they need to use that depth to get a freakin MLB bat or two. Montero has been blowing away the competition and is pretty close to the majors. Just promoted to AAA he could get a cup in September. He relies more on control and a nasty changeup rather than raw power like Harvey/Wheeler, but he has flown through the system. Syndergaard from all accounts is on the same path as Wheeler. A big power righty with top of the rotation potential. A late 2014 rotation of Harvey, Wheeler, Niese, Montero, Syndergaard is enough to make even the most jaded gloomiest Mets fan crack a little smile.

It would be nice if Alderson got some players who can actually hit and score runs to go along with the pitching staff.

                  • Not sure how much they could get for valdespin. .603 ops and without the "good clubhouse guy" reputation.

Some team will see the 11 HRs and 14 SBs in 300 career ABs and see a potential 20-20 player. They probably can't get much, but maybe he can fetch a borderline player who another team is looking to get rid of.

Do you see the in-game stats about the bullpen during broadcasts? Excluding the closer, the Mets have the worst bullpen ERA in the NL. And it's not close. Need run scoring AND a bullpen. And you know our minor league system isn't producing big bats any time soon. It will be years before Dominic Smith and Brandon Nimmo are ready to contribute in the bigs.

Yes i'm well aware. The Mets top position prospects are few and far between and are pretty far away.

                          Flores - 2013
                          D'Arnaud - 2013
                          Puello - 2014
                          Nimmo - 2015/2016
                          Cecchini - 2016
                          Smith - 2017/2018

The Mets have to fill holes at C, SS, 1B, OF, OF, OF and an entire bullpen minus Parnell.

Bullpen help is coming soon in the form of Jack Leathersich and hopefully somehow Mejia/Familia can get/stay healthy.

D'Arnaud should be the starting catcher by seasons end and Flores should be in the majors and playing either 2B or 1B some point soon.

                          • The good news is that they could fill several of the hitting holes through free agency - Santana $25.5M, Buck $6.5M, Francisco $6.5M all come off the books. And Jason Bay $18M becomes $3M next year.

The next two FA classes are underwhelming to say the least and Wilpon is broke as hell. He has a 350 million dollar loan payment due next summer and almost 900 million dollars in loans to be paid in full by 2017. Alderson IMO is going to be active more in trading rather than throwing non existent Wilpon money at the problems.

How long until Bobby Bonilla comes off the books?
