      Game #5

      Good news......

I went 1-2 in this game. No K's.

Played good defensively at 3B. No errors.

      Bad news.....

Team lost 3-2.....we are now 0-5 for the season.

We had a shot in the bottom of the 9th but for some reason our #3 hitter thought it would be a great idea to try a squeeze play with me on 3rd base and only 1 out.....except he bunted it straight to the pitcher and I was a dead duck. The next guy struck out and we lost...sigh.

      No significant injuries. Woot!

So, after 5 weeks of play.....YTD stats: Batting Avg: .286 (4-14) Runs scored: 1

      Game #6 on Monday

Someone watched Major League over the weekend...
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

With a walk rate like this I am not sure if you will make the majors anytime soon.

Good luck and have fun this season! Playing sports is a lot of fun.

Well you are a pretty spry looking dude for your age.

Yeah, I don't take alot of pitches. If it's close to the plate, I'm swinging.

I've been called out twice on strikes and I hate it!

              Thanks Lurk...it is fun.

                Game #6

                Good news......

                No K's

Finally got to play in the outfield for the first time this season. No errors.

                No significant injuries.

                Bad news.....

Ugh....0-3 with two weak pop-ups and one well hit ball straight to the CF.

This was by far the best pitcher that I've seen all year. He threw the fastest fast ball of the season and had a great slider.

We lost 14-4....the second time this season that this team has run-ruled us.

So, after 6 weeks of play.....YTD stats: Batting Avg: .235 (4-17) Runs scored: 1

                No game next week.

Game #7 on Monday, July 23.

hypothetically, if an RJer was being coaxed into ending a 20-yr drought of playing softball, what would you suggest to avoid a major injury? asking for a friend.

Get his legs in shape. I still play softball at age 57 but I go to gym ever winter to do cardio. Spinning to get my legs in shape so I don't pull anything . I couldn't get to the gym this winter because of work so I pretty much am just coaching this year.

I should have added, "being coaxed into a one-time game ON SATURDAY."
This is more of a short-term survival question.

tell him to ask to play first base ...

and don't overextend. don't try to stretch any hits, slide, etc. just take it easy.

                          Then the answer is: don't

Instead of or in addition to playing?

This is a perfect answer....most injuries that I keep seeing at the games are hamstrings, groin injuries and cramping of calf muscles.

Any cardio that focuses on the lower half/core would be the best.

                                Best of luck!
