Yeah, if California couldn't get it done, I don't like Colorado's chances this time around. But even getting it on the ballot is a pretty big leap forward, I think. Baby steps.

    • I've never tried pot, so I'm pretty neutral on the whole thing... probably favor it being legalized, but I don't think I could get behind giving it to babies.

Insomnia is not a qualifying condition in Colorado. You need to have (or pretend to have) one of these:

(Condition, number of patients reporting, percentage of patients reporting)

        Cachexia - 1,137 - 1%
        Cancer - 2,217 - 3%
        Glaucoma - 837 - 1%
        HIV/AIDS - 495 - 1%
        Muscle Spasms - 14,255 - 17%
        Seizures - 1,329 - 2%
        Severe Pain - 76,887 - 94%
        Severe Nausea - 9,998 - 12%

And, yeah, truthfully, it is pretty much a joke. I go in and pretend to have severe back pain, Dr. Hong pretends to believe me, he gets his check, I get my card.

Then why jack up fuel prices? It kills the poor far more than any other group in terms of not only higher gasoline costs, but higher food costs.

Moreover, if you're into greenhouse gas free emission energy, unless you're including nuclear in your energy toolbox, the other alt-energies aren't anywhere near energy dense enough to even cover growth, much less replacing coal or natural gas.

I agree that jacking up fuel prices hurts the poor the most - particularly those who need their truck or van to perform their work. Better to subsidize R&D to bring more clean energy products to market and then incentivize consumer spending on those products. If and when you have truly efficient vehicles that are affordable and that are long-lasting enough to start penetrating the used car market, then potential tax increases on gasoline may be more palatable, because the poor will actually be able to afford the more efficient alternatives.

I think cigarettes should be $10 a pack, with a 50 cent deposit for each cig butt. I'm sick of seeing people toss their butts around like they are biodegradeable. I think SF should ban filtered cigarettes, you want to smoke, great, unfiltered for you!

              I'm pro-nuclear as well

If I'm looking at the tax chart correctly, it looks like income tax rates dropped pretty much all of the Reagan years. In 1988 there were only two brackets, 15% and 28%. I'd like to go back to that also.

There were three. They snuck a 33% bracket in the back door.

At a time of rising gas prices, heightened talk of war with Iran and setbacks in Afghanistan, Mr. Obama’s approval rating dropped substantially in recent weeks, the poll found, with 41 percent of respondents expressing approval of the job he is doing and 47 percent saying they disapprove — a dangerous position for any incumbent seeking re-election.

                        • Just had a BMW SUV speed up in traffic to get next to me, beep his horn incessantly until I looked over and then flash me what looked to be one of several signs he had made up for just such occasions (I have an Obama 08 bumper sticker)...

Nice to know this poor aggrieved individual is prepared for this sort of protest. I'm curious what the other signs he had said...

                          Started my day off well.

You would love the local LaRouche guy who stands at Dunkin Donuts with a giant poster of Obama (complete with Hitler mustache) yelling bizarre, bizarre stuff about impeachment. I would love to see the rest of the literature for laughs, but I am too embarrassed to be seen talking to the guy.
I always get a chuckle because he's just so into it.

Yep, the national media always thought they were Tea Party members.
The LaRouche people actually hate Obama because they want more "liberal" health care - and they think Obama is the one with "death panels."
