Yeah, I'd prefer if I'm going to get a non-power hitter that he have speed.

So a minor speedbump: I unlocked 9-coin legends, but ranked up and drafted a Pre-War coin, of which I now have 6 (+ 2 WC coins), or 8 total. So I'm now one Pre-War or WC coin away from Ruth or Gehrig, where if I use the 2 WCs on getting Koufax, I'd be 3 away (which could take another few weeks to accumulate). Do I hold off? Oh, the choices.

    • BTW, if you use the phone/iPad app, if you click on a free agent or legend pitcher's card, it does show the K% as a bar chart. For some reason, it doesn't show that on the computer, which is a pretty big drawback. Also, you can't see it on a legend's card if you don't have enough coins to view the legend, or you haven't played in enough leagues yet.

So don't buy pitchers based on their "perceived" K%. I bought Dwight Gooden expecting a large K% -- and hadn't viewed his card on the app -- and it turns out he starts with a middling K%. Dazzy Vance, otoh, has a huge K%. So be mindful!

      • Ended up going with a 9-coin Koufax, who through 3 starts is averaging 14.5 K/9. Uribe and Donaldson are knocking on the 5,000 hits milestone, so I'll dump them in a week or so.

        • In a Legend VI football league, I just got beat up 115-0 by a powerhouse team. My Aikman went 10-28 for 21 yards with 4 INTs & Bo Jackson ran 12 times for 7 yards. His Jim Brown ran for 652 yards and 11 TDs on me. Yikes. And I have to play him a 2nd time!

          • My CBS team has been moving between Level V and Level IV, but man, at Level IV it's like every team out there can just kick your ass. This is where the holes in your lineup/staff really get exposed. I had Juan Uribe just 12 hits shy of 5,000, at which point I would dump him, and 22 games in he's still 3 hits short. It's an 0-5 every game, and due to his badge, I have him batting 3rd. Not only can't he get any hits, but he's killing my winning percentage.

            • I'm starting to close in on hitting the legend levels. What should I do to prep my team for the bloodbath? I have some weak players on my bench...is it important to get rid of them? What about my staff? I have starters that are better than most teams on my level, but the relief staff, aside from a couple relief pitchers, is touchy.
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

              • That's about where I was as well. I have decided to just punch through and not get any legends yet. I'm close to unlocking the 7-coins and I will probably get Pedro then for sentimental reasons and otherwise wait for 9-coins. I have been steadily training a couple hitters and a couple pitchers (Sosa, Wills, Scherzer, Score). My 3B and C are both pretty mediocre, as is most of my bullpen and a lot of my starters, but this is still enough to be steadily bouncing between coming in top 3 in Legends VII and getting crushed in Legends VI.

Replacing your bench is not a concern, it's not like those guys get at bats. If your starting pitchers aren't amazing, I'd probably look to replace one and push someone into your bullpen - I can reliably win the games Scherzer and Score start but when one of the other guys gives up a few runs and the bullpen comes in, it gets ugly fast.

And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

                • Well, you can look at it a few different ways. If you bypass the 3-to-7 coin players and just wait out the 9-coin players, you'll miss out on using a lot of great players who you may want to use. But on the other hand, those 3-coin players have ceilings that will show up when you advance. But if you train up the 3-to-5 coin players, they'll still be phenomenal until you reach Levels III, II & I.

I have one 9-coin player in Koufax, and he's been amazing. But my 55% trained 3-coin Saberhagen is amazing, as are 4-coiners Rube Waddell and Dazzy Vance. My 5-coin Ichiro is batting .402 through 9,000 ABs, and my initial 3-coiners Posey and Ashburn are also hitting in the .380s. But I also have 3-coin hitters in Joe Tinker, Lou Brock and Roger Bresnahan who have been OK at best.

Also, be mindful of the 'Legends Collection' which unlocks the Level 6 badges, which you can't get any other way.

So it depends what you want to do -- do you want to be competitive and get to Level V and IV and do well while using mid-tier legends, then replace them down the road? Or do you just want to wait out 9-coiners and be content with staying at Levels VIII and VII with glaring holes that get exposed, before you start to ramp up?

i'm camping around level 30 in both baseball and basketball...

I bounce between Level V and Level IV, and Level IV is not very fun.

                            • I'd say my biggest lower level single category beast has been Deion Sanders.
He's over 500 SBs in less than 1400 games. A .36/g clip that's way ahead of my other swipers.
Ellsbury has been solid at 0.32, but I got him several levels higher than Prime Time.

Yep, Deion Sanders' 0.36/g clip is also my team's historical highest, but when you get to the legends levels, many of the pitchers have huge negatives towards SBs, so I'm thinking it's natural for early non-legend speedsters to have much higher success rates.
