I wrote a similar one last month, and to my disappointment, no one jumped on it (er, wait, er, NNTAWWT). Relieved, er, pleased, er contented that the audience still has a pulse!

It's pretty expensive not to open, too, isn't it?
Meanwhile, I now expect to be smacked by up to 18 or 24 inches by tomorrow night and into Tuesday.finished 10th in this 37th yr in 11-team-only NL 5x5

I have other ideas too. Like why aren't the road "heated" in areas where the roads might freeze over, so they can be turned on and melt the ice?

I bought 2 20 pound bags of bird seed and 3 things of bread. that's how I prepare for snowstorms. until spring I'll dig out an area of my yard and dump the seed on the ground. the bread is just to get all the customers to come. the more different birds the safer it seems. it's proportional. I even get 2 different types of woodpeckers. bluejays are actually careful around woodpeckers. which I never knew.
come to think of it, I built bird houses one year and got a lot of house sparrows, and I don't think I've seen one since. so I have to do it if I want to keep my place bird diverse. the winter here will wipe out a species or two in the area. house sparrows are tough, but they only venture 7 miles from where they are born. that was fun tho. I built like 7 houses and six of them moved in that year. really pissed off my 2 cats that year. I caught my angel about to rip out the next of my favorite bird. those birds moved on quickly once their young hatched. I never did see them again after.
it's the extreme conditions that draws them together and causes them to all get along. it's enough to keep a cat in the window interested during the winter. like little feline scientists they are like look how these guys survive and act during the winter. this year I also have like 5 doves. which I didn't have last year. doves draws all the other birds. if it's safe for a dove it's safe for everyone.
it's also my small way to show my neighbors I care.
