This should have been on my list.

Free - Heartbreaker (1973)

Their final album and not one of their more popular ones, it's extremely emotionally resonant; a feeling of mental, spiritual and sonic heaviness pervades throughout. (Guitarist Paul Kossoff's health problems probably have something to do with this.) "Wishing Well" and the title track are two of Paul Rodgers' very finest performances. "Easy on My Soul" is a sublime plea for relief.

Aside from the Isleys and Aretha, I see all of these acts as singles artists. Or, in Scott-Heron's case, just as interested in spoken word as in music, which isn't my thing over the course of a full album.

Fun fact: Bill Withers and his wife met at a Gil Scott-Heron concert.

I'm not sure what the general public feels about Supertramp, but Rob Gordon certainly isn't a fan - "Just because she's dating some Supertramp fan doesn't make me $5000 richer."
