            Do you mean the bracket contests everyone does? Probably not nearly as many people.

            I enjoy the sports aspect of it - I love having 4 or 5 games all going at once and constantly seeing some game coming down to the wire on TV. I miss the days when I could take off work and go to the bar for 8 hours and watch all the games with my friends.

                Take away the contest pools and you have a very small crowd outside of those directly involved with their school giving a damn.

                  March has already been maddening. I could not see any of the games I wanted to watch yesterday. Wichita State lost, but Baylor won. Jayhawks tonight, while we are out with some friends for Judith and Nancy's birthdays.

                    The tourney really started taking off in the '80s as they started televising on ESPN/CBS all day long. I don't think just those involved were watching or else it wouldn't be televised like that.

                      The Bird/Magic duel in 1980 was also key. Huge TV audience, which carried over. In contrast, the long litany of UCLA Championship runs was, not dull, but less exciting. Of course I was watching even then.
