      7.04 Use Me - Bill Withers (1972)

If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.
      - Terence McKenna

Bullshit is everywhere. - George Carlin (& Jon Stewart)

Just not right that this is still hanging around at the end of the 7th. Always figured I could get a good Otis song at any time ... but it doesn't feel right picking an Otis song tactically. Died at 26 ... extraordinary to think what Otis and Sam Cooke achieved in such shorts careers. That's 3 of the big 4 ticked off the list

            7.07 Fingertips (Pt. 2) - Stevie Wonder (1963)

12 years old, recorded live at the Regal Theatre in Chicago, Marvin Gaye playing up a storm on drums. Also the first live song to ever hit #1.

              8.01 Have You Seen Her - The Chi-Lites (1971)

I always felt so bad for the poor guy in this song; beloved by all the kids in the park, but heartbroken and lost.

This wasn't an easy choice ...

8.02 Higher Ground - Stevie Wonder

... I always really like the RHCP version also.

                      8.05 I Want You Back - The Jackson 5

Probably my favorite of the Jackson 5 tunes, with an outstanding bass line by Wilton Felder. Felder also led the Jazz Crusaders (later "The Crusaders") as a trombonist. I actually got to have dinner with him once in the late 70s. Very nice man.

8.06 Move on Up - Curtis Mayfield (1970)

Much is rightly made of the Superfly soundtrack, but the Curtis album from two years earlier is even better IMO.

Two of my last three picks have been covered by Paul Weller. I'm not doing that on purpose, but I'll admit that Weller was my gateway into some of this stuff.

Sorry for the delay, my wife is sick and I'm handling all the baby care today.

Someone had to break out the first all-white act, might as well be me. This was my favorite song when I was six.
