3.04 - In the Midnight Hour - Wilson Pickett (1965)

If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.
          - Terence McKenna

Bullshit is everywhere. - George Carlin (& Jon Stewart)

The real godfather of soul. Picked this in the main classic rock draft also (I think) ... this would be my 1.01 if we were ranking our picks.

3.06 Bring It On Home To Me - Sam Cooke

This version from my one of my all-time favorite live CD's, Sam Cooke Live At The Harlem Square Club, 1963.

More Philly, more 1972. So gorgeous.

4.01 Rock Your Baby- George McRae

1974, I'm 12 ...I remember lying on the floor in my living room at night, in front of our old RCA console stereo, and hearing this amazing song on some FM station. It's hard to remember now, in those pre-disco days, how different and catchy this was when it came out. This song, and that beat, went on to conquer the world... and I knew it from the very first time I heard it. I've never gotten tired of it, either.

Not many people know that Harry Casey of KC and the Sunshine Band wrote and produced it... he gave it to fellow Miamian George McCrae because he couldn't hit those high notes!

                      4.03.....Mighty Love -- The Spinners (1975)

Phillippe Wynne may be one of the most under-appreciated lead singers ever. His improv skills were just amazing. Do yourself a favor and watch this clip.

                          4.05 Cold Sweat - James Brown (1967)

Many critics consider this the first true "funk" recording. It certainly changed the way musicians went about making records.

4.06 Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof off the Sucker) - Parliament (1976)

Perhaps the definitive statement from George Clinton and co., which is really saying something.

                                5.01 - Sugar Hill Gang - Rapper's Delight

This song has soul. It was/is one of the 2-3 most important rap songs and really changed the genre completely.

It also has one of the funkiest bass lines ever

                                Thoughts!!
