  • Record Heat and Heat Records

Today is the 19th consecutive day above 100°, putting us in the top 10 all time. If the forecast holds, we will move into the #7 slot, with 23 straight. We are still 3 weeks from the record of 41 straight in 1980.

Fortunately, we have only one record day this summer, and it was back in early May, so you might not count it. Still 95° while school is still in session is worth remembering.

Oh well. It is currently 3:30 AM in Baghdad, and a cool 97°. Forecast is for 113°. Again.

Should we talk about the weather?
I'm sorry, man, but I've got magic. I've got poetry in my fingertips. Most of the time--and this includes naps --I'm an F-18, bro. And I will destroy you in the air. I will deploy my ordinance to the ground.

      It's a Myth.
If I whisper my wicked marching orders into the ether with no regard to where or how they may bear fruit, I am blameless should a broken spirit carry those orders out upon the innocent, for it was not my hand that took the action merely my lips which let slip their darkest wish. ~Daniel Devereaux 2011

turn the fan on. Circulating the hot air will make you feel much better.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

I was wondering if you're still around aj. good to see.

Yeah, only 38 tomorrow up here in the great white north (tho that cracks three digits in your american system -100.4). woo hoo.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

I can get that by turning on CSPAN.

I just realized that the link isn't static so the temps probably are updated ... but right now the numbers are almost all within the death-stinkin-hot category.

When I was learning Celsius, 50° was just a number. Then I went to a place where that number was a reality, spolen with a certain reverence. 35° at night and 45° during the day gets old very quickly, but get used to it. It will top 40° well into October.

I used to live where that 107 sits Kansas. I had a pet tumbleweed. He knew tricks: roll over, play dead...

sweating just walking from the car to the office. I think with the humidity it's like 120 bazillion degrees outside.
I'm not expecting to grow flowers in the desert...

It is not official, but it looks like the string will break today at 30 days. Bercause of Dan, we had enough clouds to hold the temp to a mere 99°. It will still be the hottest and driest July on record. Average temperature is 91°, average high is 102°, rainfall is 0.03". Interestingly, today was also the best chance of rain in three weeks, 30%.

August will start with two days predicted for 107°.
