It's Back: Exceelent Movies I've Seen Lately

It's amazing that Greengrass and Damon were so full of themselves criticizing the Bourne Legacy and the screenwriter of the original trilogy (or at least the first 2 movies). They were responsible for this crap ... all by themselves.

I'm talking about these kinds of inconsistencies that a continuity editor should notice:

First and foremost the chase starts at the Aria and goes North the 2-3 mins into the chase you can see the Aria sign on the left which is SOUTH of the Aria on LV Blvd.

Second a myriad of already past now coming up on a specific casino shots.

And FINALLY Bourne drives his car up and off a ramp into the SWAT truck driving it into the Rivera lobby, the only problem with that is the ramp is clearly the ramp on the North side of Ballys (you can see the sign) which is Flamingo Rd running W to E and the Riviera Lobby is on LV Blvd on the East side of the Strip going North--SO the Car jumped Off the Ramp going East on Flamingo, hit the truck from the Right side and the action not only moves a mile and a half UP the strip to the North but the car then jumped over to the Left side of the Truck driving it into the Rivera on the east side of the LV Blvd.

Talk about hoping the audience isn't paying attention............

Demolition - IMO the best movie of 2016 so far. Saw it 3 times in the cinema ... and bonus points for using my favourite song ("To Be Alone With You" by Sufjan Stevens) as the relationship / wedding recap background music. That should not work, but it totally did. This movie struck a cord with me on so many levels. Jake Gyllenhaal is probably my favourite actor right now.

I kinda thought this movie stunk. But hey, what do I know?

I also ditched Hail, Caesar after 45 very unsatisfying minutes.

Heyelander thought it was meh also ... yet I still think it's the best movie I've seen this year

Eye In The Sky was very good also.

Agree on Hail, Ceasar! Thought the first half was decent/watchable/mildly amusing ... maybe building up to something ... then it just collapsed into nonsense. One of their poorest efforts IMO. If you left after 45 minutes, you missed the worst parts. Good timing.

I voiced my displeasure with Demolition a couple pages back - interesting idea, poor execution.

Coincidentally, watched Hail, Caesar! on a plane the other day. It seemed like a movie that didn't know where to focus its efforts. There were a bunch of different plot lines that were all very "old Hollywood" but none of them seemed to pay off, especially the kidnapping thing. It was charming enough that I didn't hate it, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

One that was most exceelent was Everybody Wants Some!! - Linklater's pseudo-sequel to Dazed and Confused. It's based around a college baseball team, which is pretty awesome, but even without the sports background it captures the freshman in college experience pretty perfectly. There's not one recognizable actor in the whole thing but the performances are solid all-around. This is one of those movies that just keeps a smile on your face the whole time and they even nail the intricacies of the baseball part of it pretty well.

I hadn't heard Damon criticized the first two. They were far and away the best.

Everybody Wants Some! - I thought going in that I'd love this movie -- early 1980s comedy, great soundtrack, Richard Linklater, kind of like a Dazed & Confused sequel, how could it go wrong? -- but it was boring as shit. I knew as soon as at he 15 minute mark I should've shut it off, but I stuck it out and was not rewarded. Somehow it has a high rating on IMDB, but I suspect this will plummet like Drumpf's polling numbers as many start to watch it on DVD.

The Netflix customer reviews on this movie are brutal, kind of in line with my thoughts. For every couple of good reviews, there are 10 saying "what the hell are those people thinking???" lol.

The Brothers Grimsby - when I got this DVD through Netflix, I really didn't want to watch it, thinking it would be a total waste of 90 minutes. I figured I'd rather watch the new season of Narcos. But my wife wanted to watch a movie, so I reluctantly put it on, and it turned out to be one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. Yes, it was extremely sophomoric and dumb with crude humor, but any movie that makes me laugh so hard I need to vomit -- three times(!) -- I'd have to recommend to others. If you like Sacha Baron Cohen, you'll like this movie. If you don't, than you won't.

Agree completely. Everybody I've talked to about the Dictator hated it. Sophomoric, crude, dumb...well yes but I laughed my ass off enough to make it worthwhile.

i watched 3 movies sunday morning. i was bored. i watched the revenant. i forgot about that one. it was pretty good. visuals and music was great. it made me want to watch another wilderness movie. at the end the indians were like doing the same thing he was.

i watched arq. which was a time travel netflix original. it was ok. normally i try not to watch movies that have only one setting as it might seem cramped, but it's about these guys trying to break into a lab that's stuck in a time loop.

at the end you realize the lab is going backward and at the same time forward in time. which i've never actually thought of before. but you know that actually maybe more accurate. if you want to get technical.

if you are able to bend space and go backward, it would be confined to just a certain area.

and i watched terminus. which reminded me of the movie Knowing with nicolas cage. it was ok. the guy that played caesar in the hbo series spartacus was in it. i didn't recognize him at first. he's a good actor. it's about something that lands from outer space just as the world is in turmoil. not a lot of action but the ending almost makes it worth it to watch.

the time loop thing got me thinking about other movies like that and i remembered one with jim belushi. i wouldn't really call it a stalker film. i remember when i went with my girlfriend and friends to a drive in once and the first movie was teenage mutant ninja turtles and the 2nd movie was sleeping with the enemy. mental note, don't take women to stalker movies. i don't like those kinds of movies.

was weird to see jim belushi in a different role tho. he was kind of bad ass. i guess the full movie is availible on you tube.

im planning on watching a movie where everyone is starving or short on food and a survivalist dude has a garden deep in the woods and 2 chicks discover it and as a result threatens his existence. that's what they said in the description. that's next on the agenda. and then maybe the gods of egypt. sounds like a good action flick.

btw i have really bad taste in things like movies and music. there's not much i can do about it, heh.

I watched Magnificent Seven this week and was somewhat disappointed. It could have been a much better film if they'd have incorporated more of the background of the Seven. The acting was good and the cinimatics beautiful, however as is, it was just a tic above a formulaic action western and since I expected more with the pre release promotions, it left me somewhat flat.
