A couple coin guys will make an immediate impact. Just be very careful how you build your team. Richard Sherman is in there, and I (and a lot of other teams) added him, but not sure if he's making as big an impact as I thought he could. My first add was Henry Ellard, and paired with Keenan McCardell my passing game has been great since I grabbed him. But if you're a running team...
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

    • Playbook matters a ton in football, but a couple cheap legends will tide you over for a while. I took Sherman (who has been just okay for me), Trafton (C), and then Gastineau at 4 coins, and no other legends until I hit 9-coiners. Gastineau won me a ton of sack categories. I'd get him when you can.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

+1 on Gastineau. Man's a beast. I've paired him with Ray Childress (DT) and it's been devastating.

        • Thanks... I picked up a couple of guys... I'm not winning leagues now, but I'm at least competitive.

              • so i leveled up to legends in baseball finally a couple of days ago. leveled from VII->VI->V fairly easily in two days. but boy level V is a different kettle of fish. just had my ass handed to me in today's tournament. and in the dailies i'm actually having to reload to find opponents that i have >90% chance against.

i bought 3 x 3 coiners - i waffled a bit on waiting for 4 coiners, but figured it was best to fill a couple of holes in my hitting. need to replace a couple of starters now, but will have to wait to get more coins...

Some of the players on their forums say 'wait until the 9-coiners' but you know what? If you like this game and play it regularly, then there's no issue with starting with 3-coiners before finally replacing them with the 7- and 9-coiners. Some of my 3- and 4-coin players have still been awesome (Ashburn, Posey, McGwire, Vance, Saberhagen, Brock, etc.) but you will need the heavy hitters to compete at levels IV and III and above (I haven't made it past Level III yet).

                  • i'm also about to hit legends with my f/b account, so i figured i'd try the "wait for the 9-coin players" strat with that, and compare.

last night was sure a rude awakening though!

The problem with the "wait for the 9-coin players" is that while they're 75 leagues away, your team is not going to be competitive enough to finish in the top 5 or 6 every night, even at the lower levels, without wasting RPs and cash training up non-legend players you will ultimately replace anyway.

I think a better strategy is to add a handful of 3- and 4-coin pitchers, train them up, then stay at Levels VII and VIII by winning then tanking. Pitching wins in this game, so get your starters to the 21.00-23.00 range, win Level VIII leagues to win the WC coin, then tank in Level VII by dropping the starters into the pen. By employing this approach, you should be able to accumulate WC coins quicker. Then by the time you're eligible for the 7- and 9-coiners, you'll have enough coins to probably land two 9-coiners off the bat. Wish I had thought of that a long time ago!!

And just FYI, a non-trained 9-coin player isn't anything special.

                      • yeah, i went with three 3-coin hitters, and am regretting it now (though not too much - those three hitters [sewell, perez, and dawson] helped a lot). i have two pretty good trained up pitchers already (scherzer and burns), but three that can easily be replaced. that will be my next priority.

                        • Hi Mac Folks,

OK, the first version of RotoLab for the Mac is posted, thanks for your patience. I fully expect there to be some bumps in the road, this is a first version programs. There are also some features missing, that will be added as we go along this year. I should have all functions completed by sometime this summer. But the program is still very usable for most leagues, most of the missing features are secondary functions that most leagues can do without, for at least a year, anyway. You must be on Mac OS X 10.7 or higher, it will not run on 10.6.x and machines.

BIG ITEMS MISSING: Hard Copy reports, Trade Analyzer and probably most important, the long grids on the draft screen (Full Stat views, Rookie list, All, Value and Ultra lists). I am working to try to get the long grids added sometime in the next week or so. The "Add Player" window on the Roster screen is not built yet either, but you can add keepers using the Draft screen. The League Converter to convert last year's leagues is not operational. This is intentional, those files are Windows-based. It would have required too much work and installation of drivers on users system to get that functionality in. Too involved to avoid a one-time exercise. You will need to create your league in the Mac version. There is also no built in Help file, use the PDF version on our web site, it is close enough for this initial year.

You can get the installer from here, it will be posted on the regular website early next week.

IMPORTANT: All that said, the Windows version is still the official version of RotoLab as we work get the Mac version fully up to speed and all the bugs worked out over the course of the next few months. By next year, it should be just as full-featured and tested out as the Windows version. Please bear with me in 2015, and be patient if you run into a problem. About 10 Beta testers have been using it for the past 6 weeks on several machines, and have gone through several drafts. But that is not the same as exposing it to the user base. Things will certainly pop up that we haven't thought of or seen before.

E-mail me directly at [email protected] if you have a problem, question, comment or suggestion.

                              • Just got the ability to get 9 coin players in both baseball and football. I'm still plotting who to get in baseball, but decided to cash in on the opportunity in football. I replaced 5 coin Aikman with Montana and one of the first few games I got this:

Joe Montana 1076 yds, 16 td
Steve Jordan 321 yds, 6 td
Ray Childress 8 tkls, 3 sck

                                OH YEAH!
