Unless the PTBNL is a top rated prospect, the Mets got hosed. Too anxious to get rid of Ike, I think that there's a lot left there once he gets out of NYC."Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake."

Davis had 1 HR and 5 RBI in 24 ABs for the Mets (.208/.367/.742 this year - .242/.334/.768 for career). Davis will make $3.5 mil this year, and will arb eligible next season; he's 27 years old.
It looks like a small upgrade for the Bucs over Ishikawa; I see nothing but a platoon with Sanchez, though."Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes." Oscar Wilde

Frankly, I think Davis sucks and wouldn't give up anything of value to get him, especially in a walk year. I guess you might as well roll the dice if you're not giving up much but he's really far from the kind of player you'd give up a "significant" PTBNL for."Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake."

well, the Mets can't be trading for yet another pitching prospect, can they? It's not Meadows, it's not Polanco... actually, Alen Hanson makes a lot of sense. The Mets need a shortstop. In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

Hanson is a top 10 organizational prospect, here is Sickels short writeup on him...
7) Alen Hanson, SS, Grade B: Borderline B+. Had some plate discipline issues after moving up to Double-A and questions persist about his defense and use of his speed on the bases, but even at second base his combination of youth and offensive ability should give him a good shot at being a productive regular.
I don't expect the PTBNL to be anything much, the Mets were barely playing the guy and Gaby has been hitting, surprisingly well for the Pirates. I complain a lot about things the Pirates do, but giving up good prospects is not one of them. We will see though.

That's just it. A very productive second baseman is one that plays solid defense and hits .275 (.335 OBP) with 16 HRs (that's off the top of my head without specific stats to support it). Ike Davis has the potential to have a similar OBP with double the HRs, and subsequent impact on the other counting stats.
He ranks among the Pirates top ten prospects according to BA (6th), BP (8th), and BBHQ (5th). Yet all of them view him as having the potential to become an average to slightly above average middle infielder...not as a budding star. Which is still good, as every team needs a quality second baseman (few think he'll really stick as SS), but not so good that he's above being traded for a first baseman that has proven (in spurts) to be a serious power threat with decent on-base skills.
Granted, neither I nor the Pirates know that Davis WILL get back to being that threat...but if they get off dealing a MR and a lower-tier prospect to find out, then it's the Mets front office that needs to be flogged (paraphrasing a bit from El D's take on the deal).2021 Auction Anatomy
