Ok, stuck with that fivesome.
Results of freeze lists:
- 52 pitchers frozen, which seems high - 32 SP and 20 RP. That's nearly half the 108 slots for the league already used (not counting DL issues).
- 20 of the top 30 SPs are frozen.
- Closers available are banged-up BWilson, Putz, and Lidge, plus K-Rod, Broxton, and Cordero. Braves and Phillies options off the board.
- Oddly, only 5 Cs kept as McCann 26, YMolina 13, and Soto 9 (wtf?) didn't make the cut.
- Field day at 1B: Pujols, Fielder, Howard, Huff, Belt, Loney, CPena etc. Only 5 kept.
- 10 3Bs kept, must buy Spanish - Aramis, Placido, JoseL, PabloS, or MiguelT. Ok, and Chipper.
- Phillips and Utley, or go single-digits at 2B.
- Reyes, Furcal, Drew or bust at SS.
- Only top 20 OFs left are Braun Holliday Werth Kemp Ethier. Quality but not quantity.
- 112 protected players, 164 left to buy.
Anything seem out of whack for an NL 12-team 5x5 freeze list? 5 owners are about half-done already re players owned and units remaining. One owner only kept 5 for 36, he'll be a nuisance, lolfinished 10th in this 37th yr in 11-team-only NL 5x5

My league is in a similar situation. It would seem this is one of those years where inflation calculations are out the window. If we think we are going to grab one of the studs by merely adding inflation to our values we will be disappointed.
It looks like we will have to target a couple of high end players early to get the stats we need. Take 1B for example, we cannot go cheap here. I at least cannot roster Pena (keeps are Stubbs, Chris Young, and low BA catcher TBD). So I have to target Pujols, Fielder, Howard, Belt, Berkman, Lee. I would prefer that anyone of these other than Pujols would be thrown out first (not Berkman) so I can get a gauge or actually buy one.
It looks like we both will need to spend some big money early?Comment
