Bring back Bonderman! (Just kidding )

But the lack of control is weird and makes me wonder a bit just how bad the injury was to his arm that kept him out. I expect Erasmo to get hit sometimes, but not to have such total lapses of control. Here's hoping he figures it out soon and that his elbow is ok. The Red Sox were a tough first draw anyway, especially with the way they've been swinging the bats of late.

As an aside, Brad Miller had poor positioning during the 4th that cost the M's at least one out and possibly two. The team should be helping him with positioning at second since it's such a new position for him, but they let him drift up the middle while Erasmo pitched away, away, away to various right-handed hitters who scooted hits in through the right side. A smarter team has Erasmo out of the 4th with a lot less damage.

I forgot to reply to this and after the crap start yesterday it seems kind of obvious to say but... I think a guy who missed that much time with an elbow injury without having surgery is still scary. Did we ever find out what the injury was other than vague elbow soreness? I just wonder if he was close to having TJ but tried rehab instead.

Forearm soreness -- nothing ever showed up on the MRI. The stuff looked good yesterday, but Boston is a nightmare matchup

After doing some lazy Brooks Baseball scouting, it looks like he couldn't throw strikes. Especially his change-up. He only threw 10 change-ups and 8 of them were balls. It's hard to pitch well when you can't throw strikes with your best pitch.

I just traded Rickie Weeks for him. I believe he can iron out his control problems in a start or two since he's had low walk rates his whole professional career.

tbf, good changeups aren't thrown for strikes. They should be thrown as a pitch that fades out of the strikezone. They mainly become strikes when you swing at them. If Boston went into the game saying "spit on the change, swing at the heat", that can happen. They did a lot of that vs Shields when he was with the Rays and he struggled against them.

So - keeper league question - buy Erasmo on the cheap if I can?

                          Absolutely.

He has a 3 ceiling, most likely an effective 4

So Erasmo keeps doing things that make me not want to own him anymore. Like basically, you know, mostly sucking..like he is today...again....against the mighty Twins.

Enjoy Tacoma, Erasmo. You'll be missed...
