Yeah, the Yankees have been hit by the injury bug but given their, um, youth deficient roster it's not a total surprise. Is "Neal" actually Thomas Neal, former Giants farmhand? I think he got sent to the Indians at some point and got DFA'd. I always wondered why that kid didn't get more of a shot in the majors. He's pretty much raked all over the minors.

It is Thomas Neal. I remember there being hype about him several years ago out in Arizona during the Fall League.

The wheels are even starting to come off Mo. Despite a seemingly scintillating 1.80 ERA, his WHIP now stands at 1.40, which is the highest for Mo in any year he served as a reliever. For comparison's sake, the highest WHIP of his HOF career is 1.186, and his highest since the start of the millennium is 1.121.

The Yanks are in freefall, having gone 5-11 in their last 16 games, with a brutal 56-86 run differential. At just 4 games over .500, this team is quickly sinking to the bottom in a very tough AL East.

They did. But in addition to the brutal hitting -- 5 starters under 100 OPS+, compared to just one last year -- the pitching has been disastrous, especially the starters outside of Kuroda. Sabathia is probably having the worst season of his career, and his 1.3 HR/9 is 30% higher than his previous career high. Pettitte's June has been putrid, as has Phelps's. And how long until they demote or DFA Joba?

When was the last time the Yanks were in 4th place this late in the season? And they're only 2 games out of the basement, currently inhabited by the team who was the pre-season World Series favorite.

today on NY radio - Michael Kay was saying that getting A-Rod back would inprove the team - people were calling in trying to justify that the .165 average David Adams is really better for the team
