And then scored on another wild pitch! Got a base hit later in the game with another SB as well.

Any pitcher that walks this guy should be slapped by his pitching coach. Or made to do push-ups. Or be forced to listen to One Direction.
I'm just here for the baseball.

          Or all 3 at once.
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

          • to be fair though, he did knock in a run on a bloop hit to left-center. which he turned into a double. i think you have to assume that anything he hits into the outfield is going to turn into a double. because, well, everything he hits is so soft that it gives him time to use that blazing speed...

If he hits well enough not to be back in AAA by June, he'll steal more than 51 bases. The bat still has a ton of question marks, the speed has zero.

it depends if the Reds GM has Hamilton on his high-stakes fantasy league team, or if he is more focused on winning MLB games, in the end.

So if Hamilton stays, it's because there's another reason other than being a contributor to a MLB team? Got it...good to know.

Hell, he doesn't have to be that much of a competitor. His replacements are Bernadina and Heisey. He just has to not be completely horrific.

Yup, and what people seem to be blinded by is the fact that he's doing everything that the Reds wanted him to...but ht. And he's certainly not alone in that respect 3 weeks into the season. Everyone LOVES Jose Abreu...hitting .200. All of the following player hitting UNDER .200: Trumbo, Peralta, Aybar, Fielder, Swisher, Sandoval, Craig, Headley, Pedro Alverez, Butler, Seager, Bruce, Granderson, Lawrie, and the list goes on and on.

Point is that it's early, and for some reason, people seem to like to pick on Hamilton as not being worthy of a big league spot. Eleven pages so far devoted to the kid...let's see where he is at the end of May.

oh, I think we already know the answer to that

                          • He is hitting exactly as anyone who paid attention to his minor league career expected him to. He is solid defensively in CF and a threat any time he gets on.

Abreu's OBP is vastly higher, so it's an odd comparison to make.

The real question is how long a leash he has.

It's not a comparison, Abreu is simply on a list of other MLB players who are hitting .200 or under, some well under. And NONE of them are getting the attention and criticism that Hamilton has.

As far as Hamilton's minor league stats, he's a career .350 OPB guy, and that includes his "down" year at AAA ball. Nothing in his stats suggest that he won't be an impact offensive player once he adjusts.

                              • maybe people are looking at more relevant stats like OPS, where Hamilton ranks behind 12 of the 14 guys on your list. you cherry-picked Hamilton's least-awful category, obviously. and given that Hamilton's OBP last year in AAA was .308, almost by your own definition it sounds like he'll need at least a year there to "adjust." nothing in his stats suggests he can just skip that higher grade. A to High A doesn't count.
