I like Bauer's bet on himself with the reported deal. He will be the highest paid player in baseball history, by far, for the 3 years of the deal. The overall contract is smaller than he could have gotten for 5 years, but if he holds up, he will come out way ahead. It is a win-win for the player and the team, given the strong possibility he will wear out his welcome locally or they will wear on him over a longer stretch.

If the reports are accurate, it's 3 years, $102 million - but $40 mil in year 1 and $45 mil in year 2. Looks like a certain opt-out at the end of year 2.

That would make him a FA with his buddy Sunshine.

So he gets $40 million guaranteed, nothing in 2022 along with everyone else, and is a free agent when the lockout ends?

$40 in 2021, $45 in 2022, $20 in 2023 with opt outs after every year. So very likely he opts out after the '22 season.

Yes. I was just noting that nobody will get paid for the 2022 season, which won't happen.

Sorry, misread your post. Let's hope they play ball in 2022. Go players! Boo owners.

Interesting perspective. I'm thinking just the opposite - both will be pretty eager to get a deal done, but especially owners who wouldn't be able to handle a second disaster financial year out of three - and this year may well not be all that great. I don't see the Cubs, Padres, White Sox, A's, or Brewer ownership having any kind of stomach for an extended fight, and I just don't see how the Rangers afford it. The Rangers had about $100 million in cash calls in '19 before COVID, and I can't even imagine how much last year buried them given cost overruns on their stadium and their massive debt service.

They both completely distrust each other right now. That is huge. Yeah, someone will crack eventually, probably both, but I don't see it being anything but ugly and painful for both sides.

This thread is incomplete without pics of Trevor Bauer's agent Rachel Luba. Luba, now 28 years old, is MLB’s first certified female agent and the only woman with her own agency. She also represents Yasiel Puig.
