In all seriousness, I think that the Rays have mis-managed Jennings. He will likely be at least 25 before he becomes an MLB regular. This is a guy who's got a ton of his overall value locked up in his wheels. Seasons of 60 SB's/15 3B's are his upside. Contrast that to premier speed guys like Crawford and Reyes who each multiple high impact MLB seasons under their belt before turning 25. Speed guys usually start to lose a step or two by age 30 which is why their peak prowess is usually their age 22-28 seasons, for Jennings half of which will have been spent for naught toiling in the minors.

Jennings has had a major durability issue which has slowed his development. Had he not hurt his wrist 2 weeks ago and then his finger a few days ago, he would have been up.

Delaying him until 25 allows them to control him from 25-31, the prime stat years, and then let someone else have him at that point as a free agent.

So the Rays have cost Jennings lots of money.

Well, the Rays and injuries. But yes, if ever there was an excellent example of a team manipulating the system to potentially save millions and millions of dollars (and therefore cost the player millions and millions in return), it would be the Rays' delaying of Jennings' call-up.

I wonder how many recent top prospects have had as many minor league AB's as Jennings. As has been pointed out, most orgs would have called him up two years ago if not more and you have to think this has gotten into his head and possibly affected his development as a hitter.

He has 2197 plate appearances in the minors now
Crawford had 1855 in the minors

account for the injuries, and they'd be about equal except Crawford was called up at age 20, and gone at age 29 when he still had 3 more seasons of peak production of age to go.

This situation will undoubtably be addressed in the new CBA. I think the 'super-two' status will be a thing of the past.

25-31 are not necessarily the prime stat years for a speed guy.

Was going to note same---if the goal was to maximize his productive years then they have missed by several.

I was thinking the same thing. I think I'd like to have Jennings from age 23-29 or 24-30 at the latest.

He's not exactly all speed. He has been projected for 15-ish HRs as well

                            Per Rotoworld:

Rays prospect outfielder Desmond Jennings was held out of the lineup with Triple-A Durham on Friday night for "non medical" reasons.
Very interesting. This could mean nothing at all, or it could be a precursor to a trade or potential call-up. Stay tuned

He was seen signing something in the clubhouse after the game in the mgr's office and Upton was pulled from the game in KC shortly afterwards. Joe gave up the DH to put Damon in LF and move Fuld to CF which is odd, even for him
