I have yet to see the appeal for Hutchison. I don't get it.
I'm unconsoled I'm lonely, I am so much better than I used to be.

In addition to Liriano, the Bucs also gave up Harold Ramirez (BA #95 overall prospect) and Reese McGuire (BA #97 prospect in '15).

He was such a hot trade chip, but all the Rays got was Jonah Heim, a High-A catcher hitting .216??

            Hector Santiago traded to Minny.
for former top prospect Alex Meyer.

Wow, I guess the Bucs see the appeal.

Not really. They just wanted out of paying Liriano.

                • The Bucs are like the fantasy owner who perpetually dumps every year in mid June, am I right?

                    Makes sense.

On the other hand, the Pirates are the one team that might be able to do something with Hutchison.

Yeah, it puts him on the radar. But I'm guessing they see him as a lottery ticket. Even if he doesn't pan out, they are probably just happy to have the payoll flexibility with Liriano gone.

Outfielder Ramirez probably had little to no chance of playing in Pittsburgh with Marte/Cutch/Polanco/Meadows all ahead of him. And McGuire has disappointed offensively with Elias Diaz surpassing him as the Pirates top catching prospect. That combined with Cervelli's 3 year deal made him expendable.

It's the cost savings that appeals to the Pirates owners. To them every player is just a number with a dollar sign in front of it.
