Rays also traded Steve Pearce, but no one is sure where just yet.

He was such a hot trade chip, but all the Rays got was Jonah Heim, a High-A catcher hitting .216??

Hector Santiago traded to Minny.

Yeah, it puts him on the radar. But I'm guessing they see him as a lottery ticket. Even if he doesn't pan out, they are probably just happy to have the payoll flexibility with Liriano gone.

Outfielder Ramirez probably had little to no chance of playing in Pittsburgh with Marte/Cutch/Polanco/Meadows all ahead of him. And McGuire has disappointed offensively with Elias Diaz surpassing him as the Pirates top catching prospect. That combined with Cervelli's 3 year deal made him expendable.

It's the cost savings that appeals to the Pirates owners. To them every player is just a number with a dollar sign in front of it.
