Pirates acquire the recently DFA'd Allen Webster for cash. If anyone can make him useful, it's Ray Searage. I expect they'll try to make a reliever out of him, but time will tell.

White Sox sign Alex Avila to a 1yr deal. I wonder how his negotiations went with the Tigers (where his dad is GM).

There was nothing in the local papers here or on the radio about him even attempting to resign. Fans pretty much assumed he would be leaving. He needed a change of scenery. He could do very little right in the fans eyes. He lost his job to McCann and with the Tigers having many holes to fill it was thought that they would let him go and let Holaday be the back up thus freeing up a few million for pitching.

Cubs acquire RP Rex Brothers for minor league pitcher Wandy Cabrera. Remember when everyone around these parts was falling over each other regarding Brothers and lamenting the Rox using LaTroy instead? I was always amused by the amount of attention folks here gave to the Colorado Rockies closer situation.

Guilty as charged. I used to like getting my second closer from Colorado or a bad team. I wanted the saves and could easily offset the Colorado effect with streaming a couple of MR's. It doesn't work in my league now.

As a Cubs fan I like the potential of this minor deal.

The Twins have officially struck a four-year, $12MM deal with Korean first baseman Byung-ho Park that includes a $6.5MM club option ($500K buyout) for the 2020 campaign. Minnesota will pay Park $2.75MM annually for the deal’s first two seasons and then $3MM apiece in 2018 and 2019.

given the posting fee, they get 4 years for under $25M. Seems quite reasonable, low risk but could be a nice reward.
