Got my last premium choice from both Automatic and Lifes Rich Pageant. I think drafted Cuyahoga in the Desert Island Draft a couple of years back.

      Search says yes!

      • Shiny Happy People ranks #4 on my list of REM songs. I knew with this group of REM fans it would slide. Why would a true fan like the song when the band doesn't even like it.

It is good for several reasons.
        1. It is catchy.
        2. Kate Pierson.
        3. Michael Stipe hates it. He made the song, so to hell with him.

All the talk of their cheesy poo songs started to scare me, so I grabbed it.
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

        • Love the Stand and Try Not to Breathe picks. The last 3 picks have been in my Top 5 for my next pick.

          • I also approve or ask picks following mine. All would have been considered for my next pick.

I like it, but I wouldn't call myself a die-hard REM fan. And Kate is wonderful.

LOL. Michael Stipe delights in spreading misinformation about the band and its history. They opened their Denver show with Stand on the original Green tour, so unless I just happened to be there the one time they played it, ever, I'm pretty sure he was playing Pinocchio again.
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean - neither more nor less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."

                • They played "Stand" 129 times, according to a concert setlist website, the last time being 2003. There's no listing of them playing it in Denver, though, so the list may not be very accurate.

There was no internet in 1989, so chances are setlist records from the late '80s are much less accurate than those from, say, 1995 and onward.

That's been my experience with setlist sites from Phish, Neil Young, etc.

                    • I guess it's like Thom Yorke saying that Radiohead never plays Creep, but if you look at setlist sites, they do.

I'm fairly certain they played Stand the last time I saw them live back in 1998 or 1999.

The best song about the elderly ...

Following up their classic 90's mega record Different Class with this track about old people, sex and drugs. Commercial suicide at it's best ... and one of their best songs.

Great song ... never heard that before ... shame that hypocritical bandwagoning douche Billy Bragg was on stage spoiling the view.

Not a fan of champagne socialists?

Don't ask how Michael Stipe lives, then...

Everybody hurts, sometimes. But you'd probably hurt a lot less if you could afford to buy former R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe's New York City pad.

For $10.95 million you can own his duplex penthouse located in Manhattan's Tribeca neighborhood. With a star-studded pedigree, it's no surprise that this apartment is in the spotlight. Before Stipe, the duplex was owned by director Gus Van Sant, followed by actor Casey Affleck. It also features a top-of-the-line kitchen designed by celebrity chef Mario Batali.

Undoubtedly a more favorable carbon footprint than Billy's mansion, but still...
