Yes, I agree with Bob, not with the "controversy."
It wouldn't be as dumb if this was just something that might raise the eyebrows of people who won't ever vote, much less volunteer, for you.
But if I'm not mistaken, polling shows a high degree of religiosity among African-Americans and Hispanics - a key part of the base.

Meanwhile, not sure your last analysis there holds up, but don't have time to elaborate right now....

The god stuff, while amusing, doesnt matter to me that much. What annoys me is that all the speeches have to end with some form of "god bless america." I assume the dems do that also?

The whole "we belong to the govt" thing is funny, and a bit scary. I wonder how many dems really believe that crap, other than these:

"The Times found no pattern of sexual misconduct by Mr. Biden, beyond the hugs, kisses and touching that women previously said made them uncomfortable." -NY Times

"For a woman to come forward in the glaring lights of focus, nationally, you’ve got to start off with the presumption that at least the essence of what she’s talking about is real, whether or not she forgets facts" - Joe Biden

Yes, each Dem speaker ended with "God Bless America" last night because it's become as @#$@# stupid as the dumbass flag lapel pin outrage. If you don't say it, the details are pushed aside and you're a atheistic heathen destined to ruin the country.

The Democratic platform has as many references to "God" as the founding document of our country. I'm OK with this

                Pretty much

Funny how God references went from 2 to 12 in the last 2 GOP platforms or how the sum of mentions from the last 3 platforms has been doubled in this one.

be happy. according to your chart, whoever says "god" less wins.

Well, the way I read the graph that mentions of God are the political Hail Mary and we know how often the Hail Mary works... Small sample size but the party with the greater # of mentions has lost the last three elections.
