at least in pro boxing, you don't have to let the fight last til the end; you have a chance to win outright.

as I like to say, barrel jumping may be a lame sport, but it's a sport - who jumps over the most barrels, wins.

Gymnastics and figure skating are popular competitions that require lots of skill, effort, and athleticism.
they are not sports.
swimming=sport
diving=not a sport

and "not a sport" is not a pejorative.
great guitar riffs are "not a sport," either, but they still are awesome.

Did anyone see the women's 800m ... there was some debate that Caster Semenya deliberately dogged it so as not to have to go through all the publicity that accompanies a Gold. I'm not sure I buy this, but she ran a ridiculously awful race, and didn't seem upset by getting silver.

Given the value of a Gold Medal, I'd be surprised. But you're right, given how she'd dominated some races, I was very surprised at her race. I didn't see the splits, but she sure seemed to run a very unusual split for an 800.
