  • Guys -
I realize we provide a growing population assistance in numerous ways - food and housing benefit being part of that.

The welfare state is growing - not diminishing and its not a race thing it is everywhere. A growing welfare state is NOT a good thing.
It is wrong and ultimately self-defeating for a nation of immigrants to permit the kind of abuse of our immigration laws we have seen in recent years and we must stop it.
Bill Clinton 1995, State of the Union Address

Has anyone claimed it's a good thing? In fact, I think that is one of the only things everyone here could agree on is that it is not a good thing. And the only welfare that seems to be increasing lately is corporate welfare.
If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

No it's not, but it grows because those at the top keep taking more and leaving less for others. It's a pretty clear cause and effect.

        • I would agree that corporations need to be forced to pay their taxes.

I dont believe the government should be in the business of wealth redistribution. It is socialist at its core, and provides no incentive for people to work harder or take responsibility for their lives.

That's just a fallacy. People either work hard or the don;t, I know people making six figures that don;t work hard at all, they coast, keep their mouths shut and pick up a check because they play the game and again, sit on their butts doing as little as possible. I also know people who work their asses off for nothing--Most folks want to work, want to contribute, very few are just lazy--that again, a myth contrived by those at the top who want to keep more shit for themselves.

Cut taxes on the lower 50%, raise taxes or close the loopholes and force people like Trump and corporations to pay thiers.

                • Simplify the tax code - close the loopholes - enforce on corporations. This is part of the answer.

Limit taxes to individuals and allow them to spend their money on those things that they find valuable. Quit creating uneven markets that force people to participate if they choose not to (which is different than free medical for everyone).

I'm going to bet that you also want the government to have an efficient court system to enforce contractual obligations, such as the ones your employer depends upon for its continued existence, and that you depend upon, by extension, for your livelihood. (This court system is extremely expensive, by the way, and is something for which the poor have relatively little use.)

Ive said this before - a flat tax is the easiest simplest tax system there is.

You are going to say that its regressive and that X% is more meaningful to the poorer people.

Im going to say X% is X%.

Your going to say but its not fair to the poorer among us.

Im going to say - its fair because it is the same across the board to every person.

Your going to say its not morally fair to the poorer people.

and we will continue to chase this rabbit down a hole.

GITH - I really do like you! Even though we are on opposite sides now.

I'll make one comment, and yes I really like you too, and that is--if you keep screwing or ignoring the poor--DO NOT BITCH when they come take your shit so that they can sell it and live. Because throughout these threads you have essentially said to the poor--let them eat cake.

That's ok, when they storm your house and rive you out of town you can stay with me in my shack cuz, it's what us socialists do :P

                          • I want the poor to have job opportunities so that they can work and become better off than they are. I want them to succeed based on their own merits - if they need a bump of help once in a while I can live with that - but I would much prefer to see a society where everyone is working jobs or multiple jobs and producing more in order to afford more.

There are hundreds of thousands of good paying jobs out there if people want to work them. Education and the Government have spent the last 40 years demeaning certain labor jobs and the people that work them. So folks dont look to be plumbers, carpenters, electricians and other tradesmen - because these are "good jobs". In fact these can be high paying great jobs if one is willing to put in the time. I would love to see us teaching trades to poor people that have no job skills. Give them a useful and practical skill so that they become employable for more than just flipping burgers.

I want people to feel the sense of pride and accomplishment you get when you succeed and take ownership for yourself.

What do you feel about those who've never had to work at all because they were born into wealth?
