        If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

          Another band that didn't lip synch for Soul Train:

            Nothing evokes Fairmount Park* in the summer quite like this.

            * - Philly's equivalent of Central Park.

                  Bonus points for being covered by My Morning Jacket.

                    Obviously no hurry to take a Sly tune, since there are only two drafters without one and at least five I would be happy to roster, but I was playing this one and got nostalgic and decided to grab it now.

                    One of the most successful b-sides in history (Stand! was the a-side), "I Want To Take You Higher" charted well, and was always a huge favorite when the band played live. When they rolled it out at Woodstock, the crowd really got deep in the funk. It has been covered by a lot of people, and made a hit by Gladys Knight, too. (I can't remember seeing Gladys in the draft so far. I may have to remedy that.) Anyway, here it is:

                    Even Ike and Tina got in on the act:

                    And just to show how good Tina looked on Soul Train in 1970:

                              This was a big hit in NY in the summer of '73, hit #35 on the charts nationwide. The only African record by an African to hit the Top 40, says Wiki.

                              Often cited as the first disco song, I don't think it's really that. It was very danceable, that's for sure.
