Yeah, I thought that when I first read it. Something was not right there. Still not sure if I would have taken the chance or not. If he was a lone gunman and I thought he did not have another gun I think I would have tried it.

I wasn't there, but if given the chance, I'd think that I would grab the gun if only to make sure they couldn't use it on me (given that I thought I could get it without a struggle). Maybe I'm just not getting the scenario

Ultimately - if you grab the gun you better be ready to use it. I was not in the position to feel comfortable using the gun, which may have played into my decision also.
