I watched the State of the Union Address last night. I thought it was Obama's best speech. He was laser focused. Let us know upfront what he was going to talk about, and I liked that he understood to speak in general terms instead of specific policies (while he still slid some in). I think he realized he can't get a lot of policies through in his last year.
There was nothing that he said that I didn't disagree with. I thought his final point about Congress and Americans needing to come together to compromise and work together on issues was a much needed message. I like that he called us all the be Americans, first. Then place our other labels after that. Completely agree with him on this. My personal example...as a Christian who believes that the act of homosexuality is a sin, I need to lay that aside and let people marry whoever they desire. My personal beliefs don't trump someone else's rights.
I thought the Governor of South Carolina came out afterward and killed it as well.
Both speeches called for reconcillation and teamwork. They called out the fringes of both parties which the majority of America doesn't agree with.
Overall, two great speeches that echoed a lot of the same ideas.
Afterward, I hop on social media, and what do I find. Everyone bitching and moaning about the other party.
Seems we only want to hear what we agree with...no one listens anymore. So very, very disappointing.
