Or he realizes signing onto a bill that further subsidizes green energy will kill whatever is left of the coal miners jobs.
I'm just here for the baseball.

Manchin is rightfully catching hell for his stance but let's not forget that every single GOP member is also to blame for this. You'd have thought that with the SALT provisions that benefit their wealthy benefactors they'd be on board, but I guess it's just not enough. Broadly popular, helps real people, but doesn't put enough money in the pockets of the landed gentry and doesn't contribute to turning little Middle Eastern kids into skeletons. I guess there's the problem.

Sure, he cares deeply about coal miners and working class people, that is what motivates him

So do the potential SALT changes benefit GOP? My impression is that there are Dems pushing for this. Been a while since I thought about it so I could be wrong

Last year Manchin made $491,000 from his coal brokerage business that he founded. That's more than twice his salary as a Senator. So, yeah, he's super concerned about the working class big time, even though they probably don't even have the good grace to own Maseratis or yachts.

Green energy could prevent the killing of actual coal miners....

there are less than 15,000 coal miners in West Virginia in a state of almost 2 million people. But I'm sure Joe Manchin cares deeply about their lives and is just looking out for their well being.

Against the wishes of the coal miners union. Hmmmm...

It isn't about whether he is a kind a caring person. Coal mining has always had an outsized footprint in terms of identity in his area. He hears them, because they are the WV cowboys and a lot more folks identify with them than are them. He will listen or it could cost him. He has to be able to spin his stance as pro miners.

At least they got housing and weekly minimum salary increases this year. You think they'll get anything from the new CBA?
