I real threat to a species is a disease that attacks the youth and future or society. I can't think of a disease worse than Zika.

we are all worried about a disease like Covid that affects rich people and affects the economy. but biologically a disease like Zika is more threatening. and alarming since it affects children.

COVID mortality is something like 10 to 20 times more severe than the flu. CFR for flu is roughly 0.1%, and for COVID it is about 2%. Both affect elderly people more severely. CFR for flu for people over 70 is about 1%, and for people in their 50's is about 0.05%. If you want to say that COVID for young people is like the flu for elderly people, that might be right, but I don't think that's what most people hear when they hear that COVID is like the flu.

Today the US shattered the record for daily new cases that it set just yesterday. 183,527 according to WorldoMeters. Unbelievable. Practically every state has seen its cases skyrocket lately, even those that seemed to have it relatively under control. Where and when will it end?

Edit: 181,194 according to NY Times, one of the few times their figure has been below that of WorldoMeters.

The problem is that some governors and mayors don't have the will to do it. And their people are suffering because of that. A few federal mandates could lessen the severity of this virus. And hopefully a vaccine ends this virus.
