The racial divide in the voting number in Alabama was frankly frightening...White women and men were apparently willing to overlook a track record and vote for a man who was tossed out of the Judiciary TWICE for ethics violations, and pretty credibly accused of preying on young girls and women. Whites voted for Moore in the 70% plus range, while Blacks voted for Jones well over 90 percent.

I'm not sure that we can look this as much of a harbinger of anything, other than GOTV efforts are vital to both parties.

Something like 96%, due in large part to the fact that Doug Jones worked tirelessly as a Prosecutor to bring KKK murderers to justice, not an easy or popular task in Alabama.

Sessions' resignation from the Senate gave him the Strange/Moore debacle followed by the Moore debacle followed by the Moore/Jones debacle, and now he has a Democratic Senator from Alabama for the first time in decades.

Only because Sessions recused from the Russia investigation, was it possible for Rosenstein to appoint Mueller as special counsel. Rosenstein, of course, was also a Trump appointee.

During the process, Trump and his cronies have turned on Sessions, Strange, Moore and now Rosenstein. It is clear that you can be Trump's boy up until the point that you don't carry his water. Funny that people don't seem to figure this out. Now Omarosa is on the bricks.

It was just so damned depressing watching the confirmation hearing yesterday for Trump's new judicial appointments. One guy admitted that he had never tried a single case, not one, in state or federal court. He had not even argued a motion. He could not say what motion in limine meant. He wasn't familiar with the Younger doctrine of abstention nor the Pullman doctrine. These are not obscure legal concepts. They are the bread and butter of federal judges, things that come up day.

There is at least an argument for putting someone like Rick Perry in charge of our nuclear power. Even though he doesn't know fusion from fission, he is an administrator and can put a lot of scientists around him. But a judge is the guy who does the actual work and must have an absolute mastery of the subject matter. The people he is nominating are ideologically correct but have no qualifications for the job.

Conservatives whine and bawl about political correctness. The true peril to our democracy appears instead to be ideological correctness. Pledge allegiance to Trump and all your wildest dreams will come true.

It's appalling. Almost nothing angers me more about this administration than the utter disregard the American people had in electing him, and the utter disregard he in turn has shown in making appointments to the importance of experience, intelligence, empathy, professionalism, and competency. All he cares about is loyalty, all else be damned. If Hodor were here insisting that Trump is what we deserve for putting up HRC against him, and he isn't/won't do any real, long term damage, this sort of thing is pretty clear evidence that he is. He has filled so many incredibly important positions with people who are a) ideologically opposed to the very idea of the organization they are in charge in existing or functioning, b) have absolutely no clue what the hell they are doing, or c) both of the above. Their actions, on the environment, education, matters of state and commerce, will affect all of our lives for many years to come. These appointments being for life make them among the most egregious.

Doesn't matter whose rules they are getting confirmed under. They shouldn't have been nominated. They shouldn't get a single vote in committee. They shouldn't get a single vote from the Senate. Arguing about whose rules are whose just shows how fucked up and partisan the process has become.
