  • New Ray Rice video footage

It was already obvious he is a complete asshole, but with this new footage surfacing, will the NFL (or Ravens) be pressured enough to lengthen his suspension? Forsett is available and would be pretty valuable if this is the case.

@Ourand_SBJ: Ravens release: "The Baltimore Ravens terminated the contract of RB Ray Rice this afternoon."

    WOW

Guess that answers that question. Also being reported on ESPN right now. I don't know what choice they had...and maybe the commissioner's office even put a bit of pressure on them to release Rice.
Considering his only baseball post in the past year was bringing up a 3 year old thread to taunt Hornsby and he's never contributed a dime to our hatpass, perhaps?

He's also suspended indefinitely by the league.

And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

I wonder if he can fight this. Already suspended and then they up the suspension because his assholeness becomes public? This may be against the rules. But I don't know who would sign him this year anyway so it may not matter.

Heh. The Vick thing was all Andy Reid. I don't see Chip Kelly taking too much of an interest in the personal-rehabilitation side of things.

It's an interesting question. I'm sure the NFL would argue that they changed the penalty due to new information becoming available, but as per that link I added above, I think Rice could argue that the information wasn't really new and the NFL is just covering up now. But yeah, he seems like persona non grata now, I don't know how soon anyone would be willing to sign him.

Yeah, for practical reasons, it'll be a one-year ban. No team will sign him and the "indefinite" suspension won't be lifted. Then in the offseason, he will "apply for reinstatement" and the ban will be lifted, with the league working behind the scenes to make sure he doesn't sign with the Bengals or Raiders (two teams whose management has a track record of not being interested in helping their players behave like model citizens off the field.)

This is going to be another Richie Incognito deal...if a team starts to sniff around, the league will squash it quietly. And deservedly so...Rice is garbage.

I like this last paragraph. Way to take it up a notch Deadspin!

"Whatever the case, it's almost certain that the NFL lied at some stage here, and that the league played a handful of its most loyal reporters in the process, suborning them into a smear campaign against a victim of domestic violence. Those reporters, who regularly and uncritically pass along the league's party line but are rarely exposed like this, are the ones who look foolish now. Maybe it's time for them to cut these particular puppet strings and name the sources who burned them so badly, which would do something to show that they're reporters, and not stooges. If you'd like to outsource the job to us, feel free to email us."

Could this be the beginning of the end of Roger Goodell's reign as NFL commissioner?

It looks like Rice spit on her when she was pushing the elevator buttons. She then charged him and he responded by punching her in the face.

Sadly, this girl has very low self-esteem to still be with an abusive ass like Rice. She probably thinks that she deserved to be punched because she misbehaved in some way. For her sake, i hope she gets out of the relationship before it gets worse. Because it will.

A cynic would say she knows her meal ticket is Rice, and if she had to express remorse for her actions to keep the money flowing.
