How many times can their top draft picks be useless?

The Browns have almost as much relevance now as they did from '96-'98, when they didn't exist.
    I agree, revo.

I said to someone "I never thought I'd say this but I may honestly stop caring about them"

I was always a true Browns fan because I believe something good will have to happen at some point, right?

Even if they draft Manziel, Clowney and/or whoever....who's to say they'll work out?

Hey at least the Indians are giving us something to root for in Sept.

What Ed said, plus this. This looks to be a deliberate attempt to tank a season, and it's only 1/8th of the way over. Shameful, simply shameful. And WTF do the Browns say if Richardson goes off and has the season that many expected him to have...

No matter who's drafting them, the Browns have been beyond inept at drafting skill position players in the first three rounds -- especially QBs -- since the re-entered the league in '99:

2012: Richardson (traded), Weeden (crap, on his way out)
        2011: G. Little (crap)
2010: Hardesty (crap), C. McCoy (crap, cut)
2009: Robiskie (crap, cut), Massaquoi (crap, cut)
        2007: B. Quinn (crap, left)
        2006: T. Wilson (crap, cut)
2005: B. Edwards (solid, traded), C. Frye (crap, traded)
        2004: Winslow (All Pro, left)
2002: W. Green (crap, cut), A. Davis (crap, cut)
2001: Q. Morgan (crap, cut), J. Jackson (crap, cut)
2000: Northcutt (decent), T. Prentice (crap, cut), J. Dawson (crap, cut)
1999: Couch (crap, cut), K. Johnson (solid)

That is one damning track record.

And don't forget that they traded from the 4th spot in the 2012 draft to get Richardson:

Minnesota traded this selection (3rd) to Cleveland for their first (4th), fourth (118th), fifth (139th), and seventh round (211th) selections this year

Thus, they traded up one spot to get TRich with a team that already had Adrian Peterson. Unless they were really worried about someone snagging TRich from the Vikings spot that is crazy. The Vikings then selected Matt Kalil who has already been in a Pro Bowl with the pick from Cleveland.

While I'd agree the move was stupid, especially in hindsight, I recall from watching that draft that the issue was that the Vikings were actively looking to trade down, and other teams were interested in T-Rich. so it wasn't that the Browns were scared of the Vikings taking T-Rich, but rather that they were scared of another team trading up to take T-Rich in front of them. That said, I do bet that the Browns gave up more than they needed to.

Calling Edwards "solid" is a stretch. He had one very good year and a bunch of injury-plagued and crappy years.

                Quote of the month....

Pagano expressed excitement about the acquisition, calling Richardson a "rolling ball of butcher knives."

Four seasons of 800+ receiving yards is solid by anyone's account.

I could not have been more wrong about this guy...he's descended into a short yardage specialist who can't even succeed at that role.

Kudos to the browns. Richardson looks like McGehee except he is 8 years younger. He runs with cement shoes on.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

Since joining the Colts for their Week 3 tilt at San Francisco, Richardson has carried the ball just 88 times for 250 yards and two scores, with a highly ineffective yards per carry average of just 2.84. Add those numbers to what the Alabama product racked up during his two starts with Cleveland (31 carries, 105 yards, zero touchdowns) and you have a running back who currently ranks 32nd in the NFL in rushing yards (behind Pierre Thomas, Chris Ivory, Lamar Miller and quarterbacks Terrelle Pryor and Russell Wilson), 45th in yards per carry average (behind Montee Ball, Daniel Thomas and Jacquizz Rodgers), 23rd in rushing attempts per game (behind BenJarvus Green-Ellis, DeAngelo Williams and DeMarco Murray) and 47th in carries of ten or more yards (behind Bilal Powell, Mark Ingram, Mike James and quarterback Alex Smith).

Exhibit A on why a RB should never be drafted as high as he was, and Example B on why a team should never trade a 1st round pick for a RB.

There was a RB from this game to start, but it wasn't him.

I got 10.3 points from him in the PPR, so I can't really complain. But what I can complain about is the way that they used him...one carry in the 1st half? Eight carries in total? How the hell is anyone supposed to get a feel for the game, or build up any confidence? Now, Brown is playing well, so I doubt that he'll accomplish anything the rest of the year.
