Looks like they're gonna at least hit Williams with the same year, possible more as he's suspended indefinitely. Even the GM got 8 games.

Good, I can finally stop watching this joke of a league, the one in which we pay obscenely strong men millions of dollars to inflict punishing hits on each other, yet at the same time penalize them for doing just that.

What's surprising to me is how much harsher this is then the Spygate punishment. Not that it shouldn't be, but is does surprise me.

If there are any other teams out there that were doing something similar-They're not going to now. And that's a good thing.

Payton lied to NFL in January - big mistake.

League must be so upset that their big news is overshadowed by the Tebow deal they were probably informed about minutes before they hit the button on the suspension announcement.

Wow, that's a twisted perspective. Clean hits are one thing, headhunting for a bounty is quite the other.

Actually, I think they're thrilled that the Sean Payton news is going to be overshadowed by the Tebow deal. They'd like to put the whole thing behind them ASAP.

No, I'm not defending what the Saints did, just expressing a general disgust with the NFL. Many games are unwatchable anymore.

Fair enough, bad read by me then.

I think the NFL is right to go over the top with this one. There aren't enough backup QBs that can handle the defenses - take a few good ones out and you lower the quality of the NFL product overall.

Nice to know that literally killing someone with a car carries the same sentence in the NFL as putting a bounty up for hitting a guy on the field. wtg Goodell.

Edit to add: But actually, I guess Greg Williams' sentence is more harsh than life-taker Donte Stallworth's. Donte only got a year suspension.

Williams may want to hope his penalty is perceived as overly harsh. A bored prosecutor could have a lot of fun with a series of "assault for hire" cases, vs a single involuntary manslaughter case.

Well, one actually has to do with the game of football, leaving the NFL as the appropriate governing authority. Killing people should primarily be punished in the criminal justice system.

That is what the smiley face means, yes.

Anyone doubt that they finished the press release 48 hours ago, then sat back and pressed the button once the Tebow deal was in hand?
