I guess my question is, why is the home plate collision an important part of the game that needs to be protected? Should we allow collisions everywhere, or is home plate only okay because they're wearing some armor? Should this play have been legal? It's close to the same thing, isn't it?

I just don't see any argument in favor of these collisions other than "we've always had them", and that isn't much of a reason. I agree that the first version of the rule (where you could get called for interference with the guy 20 feet away) was terrible, and I'm sure it'll need to go through a couple more renditions, but I don't know why I should be sad that the little bit of football that we had in baseball is going away.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

Not really the same thing at all...it would be akin to a runner coming home and just slapping at the catchers glove to knock it free. Certainly much easier to do with a catchers mitt than a fielders glove.

And I'm not arguing that there shouldn't be some tweaking to the old rule, but to totally change things proved to be horrible. And a HUGE part of baseball is the tradition and history, being able to compare generations of player precisely because the rules haven't changed appreciably over the years.

          Giants scored every 9 innings!

I have tickets for game 4, and I'm absolutely fine if it doesn't get played. I was stunned that Bochy put Strickland in, big balls to go with his big head. I would have left Petit in for another inning

I'm happier to have the Giants face the Cards than the Dodgers, I think the Giants match up a lot better vs Wainwright instead of Kershaw!

True that, but the Cardinals know how to win in the post-season. They are, perhaps, the only team in the post-season with more post-season experience than the Giants. And it was that experience (and mostly that, in my opinion) that got them to where they are, and they lose that advantage when they play the Cardinals. I expect a great series.

Yo. Odds like that deserve attention.

Bear in mind I made this prediction after the Royals pulled it out from the A's, not in preseason. Picking Baltimore over Detroit was a no brainer. I had Cards and Dodgers on the other side.

For a change, we have two teams in the ALCS that play stellar defense. Funny how they are still playing.

Why was picking Baltimore over Detroit a "no brainer"?

                        Tigers bullpen.
If DMT didn't exist we would have to invent it. There has to be a weirdest thing. Once we have the concept weird, there has to be a weirdest thing. And DMT is simply it.

That works, though I would have said Tigers D. Give that bullpen to Ned Yost and you get much different results.

Generally the Tigers lack of execution. They do not do the routine things routinely. Professionals win in the playoffs unless there is a big talent gap or an OMG performance.

In retrospect, the same applies to the Dodgers, though not as much.

Here I thought celibating was a solo activity.
