Glen Perkins is experiencing renewed discomfort in his throwing shoulder.
Perkins had been aiming to throw off a mound Friday, but that plan was scrapped Thursday after the veteran reliever felt a familiar catch behind his left shoulder while doing flat-ground work. Perkins made only two appearances last season -- both in April -- and he is obviously now questionable for the beginning of the 2017 campaign. Brandon Kintzler is set to open as the Twins' closer. Horns, they still might, but Vargas has been hurt, then awful, then hurt again, and Park is still in rehab mode himself. If Park goes back up to AAA and mashes, I suspect they'll make the move.I'm just here for the baseball.

I'll tell you what, they can stick the WBC up their asses as far as I'm concerned. Word is that he'll probably be up later this week to start a game...maybe Saturday. He's got nothing more to prove at AAA, he's dominant there. What's up with Joe Mauer? Is he trying to be a fly ball guy? Or just bad in a different way?
2016: 26.8% LD, 51.9% GB, 21.3% FB
2017: 20.7% LD, 42.4% GB, 37.0% FB
I don't think having the fly balls come at the expense of line drives is how you're supposed to do it, Joe. He's also walking less (7.3% as opposed to 13.7% last year) which could just be pitchers learning they don't have to be careful with him. He's striking out a lot less too (8.2% compared to 16.1% last year) which could be for the same reason.
