I don't hate that they didn't make a move today, but obviously I don't love it. Burnett and ACab or Prado were the upgrades I was looking for. Burnett is still out there and should clear waivers as the other teams who needed an arm got one. I imagine the Jays offered Sanchez but teams wanted Stroman.

Are there any packages where the Jays could have made an offer similar to what went down?

Gose for Milone? (instead of Fuld)
Bautista for Lester/Gomes (instead of Cespedes)

It's ironic that Joey Bats was whining about the lack of a trade, because which players are comparable to Cespedes??? The Jays have 2, and Bautista is one of them!

I like Gose as a 4th OF and substitute. I think they need Milone more, but I'm not sure Milone puts them over the top.

I doubt the Jays would've wanted to do either of those trades. Lawrie will be back fairly soon to address the 2B problem and it probably wouldn't have been wise to mortgage the future for one of the big name pitchers. It was probably smart for the Jays to stand pat, I don't think they have the pieces to go deep in the playoffs.

If they were going to mortgage the future, they would have done it for Lester or Price. The pitching is the problem that won't be solved by guys coming off the DL.

Yep. I'm hoping they get Hamels. Not trading Stroman/Sanchez is smart, but by the time they are ready to lead the rotation, the offensive core will be gone. This might be the Jays best chance as next year the Yankees will retool and Boston will be better.

tough run for the jays, facing three Cy Young winners in 3 days ...

Scherzer (2013 winner) on Saturday - win in extra innings
Price (2012 winner) yesterday - win in extra innings - 19!
              Felix (2014 winner) today - ???

okay, maybe that's a bit presumptuous, but not much.
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

                  a tidbit from yesterday's 19-inning affair ...

Melky Cabrera reached eight times Sunday alone, going 3 for 5 with five walks to become the first player to reach eight-plus times in one game since Rod Carew had five hits and three walks for Minnesota on May 12, 1972

I was there and stayed for all 19 innings. We got our money's worth!

This article articulates my thoughts that the Jays need to start turning over their roster so their offense matches their future rotation of Stroman/Sanchez/Hitchison/Norris.

I remember the late 90s when we had Clemens/Hentgen/Halladay in the rotation but Cruz Jr., Stewart, Fernandez and Gonzalez on the field.

no argument from me. This iteration of the club has had a couple of years now ... let's reset for 2016.

With Janssen likely to seek greener pastures in 2015, any thoughts on what we do at closer? In-house, Cecil is an option, but I think he's more of a Plan B.

List of pending FA established closers (* = 2015 option): JJohnson, CPerez, Robertson, KRod, Romo*, Soria*, Soriano*, Street*, Uehara

KRod makes sense with his AL past. Soria would work. I think Boston will resign Uehara, though I can also see them or NYY making a push for Janssen since he knows the AL East.

                            Sergio Santos, of course.
I'm just here for the baseball.
