Great write up, as always. I love the fact that you did the preview, and the postmortem, letting us first see your thinking before the auction, then walking us through the way pricing impacted your decisions and how you changed course. The in-game trade was a fantastic move...kudos on recognizing the situation and taking advantage of it.

Overall, the pitching looks incredible, and although the hitting seems light on power, there are enough regulars to accumulate decent or better counting stats. In hindsight, I'd rather have seen you pass on Hamels and go to $24 on Latos, then spend $28 on Choo and pass on Maybin. That would have given you $8 more for the middle/end-game.

Best of luck with the season!

agreed, although given the crazy prices, I don't have any evidence that I'd have gotten Latos and Choo even for those prices. Ignoring Hamels' 1st two starts, I think he was the 2nd-best priced stud SP in the auction.

Good point. Our league is similar to yours (12 teams, NL-only, $280 cap instead of $260, 25 man-roster, 12 reserves), except we use round-robin auction bidding (once you drop out on a player, you cannot get back in) and our inflation has gotten insane. On Saturday, Latos went for $28 while Choo went for $37 (to me...and I was happy with the purchase).

ok, Gee's disaster tonight has me with a 7.06 ERA and 1.615 Ratio - and still no wins.
only 2 other teams have as few as 2 wins.

on the other hand, I lead with 18 HR, and the guy who paid 89 units for Votto + AdGonz has... ZERO HR from his entire roster

Yeah, Gee's stinker dropped me about seven places in our standings. Axford didn't help either. Can they send him to AAA please?

Gregerson with a 1-pitch W, and I am on the board!

                TRADE OFFER BELOW

ok, not too surprisingly if you see the lopsided roster below, I am off to this start:
                1st in HR, RBI, R
                4th in AVG
6th in SB (but projected 2nd and way ahead of 3rd)
all of that is without Chase Headley, who now is about 7-10 days away from reactivation
                #offensetoburn

                and in pitching:
last in W (1), ERA, Ratio, K by a lot (6.49 ERA in fact)
5th in SV and project 2nd

Have been looking to move lame duck SCastro for another guy's lame duck Bumgarner
offered to take Descalso 1 as throw-in, while he would get DL replacement AJ Ramos 10

he says he needs to get back lame duck DHernandez or Gregerson at 3 in this deal instead
he admits that neither of us is going anywhere if we don't get less lopsided
so I don't see why I'd have to take a bum as a throw-in, while he adds more value from his throw-in

should I hold out for the original deal and walk away if he won't budge?

I know it's not a huge value swing but I think you're right, it hurts to give up a really good MR when you really need pitching. I would hold out for the original deal. Gregerson or Hernandez is too much

Yeah, I countered with lame duck DMurphy and DHern 1 for Bumgarner and Descalso.

He's a Mets lover, but I doubt he'll take that, either. tough to find a perfect match with Bumgarner; I still think it's Castro.

I also suggested lame ducks Upton and DHern for LD Bumgarner and Belt 14...

Good thinking. You'll get there eventually. Not worth giving away the farm.

                        you guys are awesome!

I noted that Castro went for 7 more than Bumgarner in both Tout Wars and LABR, so I couldn't see also 'getting beat' on the back end.

so the original deal stands (see new roster below)

I still need more SP help - but I also may still have enough extra offense soon to fix that.

Fun thing about trades like these is there is no 2014-15 component to it - neither of us are rebuilding or "going for it." we're just rebalancing...

                            INF/UT issues

                            currently:

                            1B-OF Hinske 1
                            3B-2B-SS-OF Prado 25
                            2B Phillips 28
                            SS-2B Descalso 1
                            1B-OF Blanks 10
                            2S DMurphy 1
                            UT DRobinson 1

                            Headley 24 returning
Would you cut Hinske, Descalso, DRobinson, or Blanks? I can cut any one of them
could be a free chance to cut Descalso (we can cut only 6 active guys all year), and the other 3 may just be sent packing soon to give me a natural opening....
