Back and playing and says the wrist isn't a concern. Went 1-2 with an RBI yesterday

Good. I'm likely to be a buyer. He was pretty useful in 2011, and with the numbers down a bit last year, it could be a buying opportunity.

Gyorko just hit his 3rd bomb of the spring already. Unless he proves himself completely inept at 2b, he'll be the guy

with 9 RBIs already. How can this guy not be the starter?

I'm on the train. Pencil him in for 40 HRs.

Kyle Blanks is hitting the snot out of the ball. The Pads will need to make a decision with him. No place to play and can't really justify sending him down to AAA

I have been waiting for him for years. I hope he finally gets it.

Chase Headley in doubt for opening day due to sprained thumb. On his way back to SD to see hand specialist. I assume Gyorko will move over to third and Amarista/Forsythe will get the duties at second.

I'm assuming the answer is no, but is there any chance that they play him over Alonso? Alonso was good last year, but not amazing (at least offensively, I don't know squat about his defense). He's also batting .190 in spring training so far while Blanks tears it up.

Probably just wishful thinking with my $1 Blanks, but figured I would see what the Padres peeples thought.

Who has the better profile, Tyson Ross or Eric Stults? Is eithe a viable NL-only pickup?

I would not touch ANY of those starters.
I love the bullpen, though; if you have NL-only reserve rounds, even the obscure names could be useful this year and beyond, depending on your rules.

Argh, I need to find a fill-in for Venters and could use a starter. Tyson Ross is one of the intriguing names out there, but his numbers in another pitcher-friendly environment were very poor so I'm not all that sold. Then again, he was a decent prospect coming up so there's always a chance.

Stults is probably safer since he gets a decent amount of K's and his flyball tendencies won't hurt him in Petco, but Ross has some more upside. Neither one is a great NL-only bet, but both could be viable short-term options.

                              Stults a 4.42 xERA in fluky 2012. I don't see it, even in NL-only...

Padres fans have to be hoping for something more than middle relief out of Cashner, and those feelings will only deepen when Rizzo breaks out this year. Hopefully Cashner can have a Medlen-type season and maybe get in the rotation post AS Break. With Luebke coming back by then and of course Headley fully healthy, the Padres might be a decent team to watch the second half of the year.
