After losing Randy Johnson, Griffey, and A-Rod I just assumed the Mariniers would lose Felix too. Very good news !

This likely means they won't be able to sign Carlos Lee, leaving their monopoly on 1B/LF aging power hitters incomplete.

This made me chuckle. Good news for the M's! Bad news for my A's.

Clearly a huge risk to pay a pticher 25 mill a year for 7 years when they already had him locked up for a couple of more years. Still, just in terms of salary for talent, these new tv deals will likely make this contract look like a decent value a few years from now. Of course, that is assuming King Felix doesn't go all Brandon Webb, or even all Joe Mauer, on the Ms. And it is also a great PR deal for the Ms to make, and a message to the fans that the Ms aren't just a farm team for the big markets.

Surprised SEA paid him. Glad they did. From where I sit this deal values SP elite appropriately while giving a smaller market a chance to build a pitching and 1b/OF overload, er .... defense + ballpark approach to the game circa SF

Yes, it's too much, but he was gonna get that (or more) from someone anyway, and Seattle can afford it. Sends great message to fanbase.

I would've never forgiven the M's had they dealt him -- plain and simple. And I'm willing to wager I wouldn't have been the only one in that boat, too. The contract scares me, certainly, but having Felix ensures I won't leave as a fan (and that's something me and a few of my Seattle buddies have been contemplating of late seeing as how awful we've been for essentially a decade now). At some point, the pain of being a fan becomes worse than enjoying the sport, and if you can't enjoy a past time, well, there's plenty of other past times and far too little time in the first place.

I'm glad to have Felix around for the duration. It'd be nice if we could get him some good teammates now, too.

what, Joe Saunders doesn't cut it?

... says the fan of the Toronto Blue Marlins ...
It certainly feels that way. But I'm distrustful of that feeling and am curious about evidence.

Concern about Felix Hernandez's elbow might affect contract talks about the proposed extension
