So what happened with the Big Z? He was known as an elite prospect evaluator, but it seems like all his major deals for prospects fell royally flat.

Many are beginning to wonder if it's a development issue in the system more so than a prospect evaluation problem. The Mariners' minor league system has ranked very high in the last few years, but they've had little to show for it. Wedge is a poor manager for developing the kids, too, as he frustrates easily and doesn't seem to know much about any style of hitting other than "swing the bat, kid!"

I don't think Zduriencik's the worst GM I've ever seen, but he's had way too many misses in his tenure for me to chalk it up to bad luck. At some point he has to answer for the awful records his teams have put up and also for the lack of development the kids he's drafted or dealt for have shown. I hope he's gone at the end of the year if only for the glimmer of hope a new regime would bring at this point.
