  • 2k13: Ike "Valley Fever" Davis

Stealing some info from the Paul Goldschmidt thread:

    2nd half stats:
    Goldschmidt: .271/.351/.431...18 doubles, 8 HR's, 40 RBI, and 46 runs.
    Davis: .255/.346/542...12 doubles, 20 HR's, 41 RBI, and 36 runs.
HQ likes Goldy, 24-16, over Davis in NL 5x5, mainly due to extra 18 R and extra 12 SB.
I think both HQ's projections and Davis' 2nd half stats are valid indicators of his future production. We don't know how much the Valley Fever impacted Ike, but we can see that he had a bad first half. Maybe his power was a little over the top in the second half, but he seems like a legit masher. Unfortunately, he still has to play in the Mets' lineup.

Put Davis down for .255-35-95-85r-2sb and I think you're in the ballpark.

Here's another reason that I'm high on Ike...

Alterations will occur throughout the outfield, denoted by new blue fences ringing the area. A new fence will be built in front of the 16-foot wall in left field. Another new wall in right-center will shorten the distance to home plate by about 11 feet in some places. The right-field fence area, once known as the Mo’s Zone, will move in about 10 feet.
Bringing in the fences like that should help all of the hitters on the Mets, but it should give a real power guy like Ike a shot at maybe 5 more HR's a season or so.

I have Ike Davis at 25-30 HRs just because I don't think that HR/F will sustain at over 20%. Maybe I'll be wrong but I'm taking the under. He has near-elite power with an "OK" EYE thanks largely to his ability to draw walks a little better than league average. He's your typical power hitter with passable BB/K ratio. Very good run creator, and I think his BA should look more like it did it 2010, around .260.

His counting stats will be average for a 1B just because of that team and I wouldn't count on him for more than 525 ABs, but if he were to squeak out 575 ABs, I would think 35+ is a real possibility.
Find that level above your head and help you reach it.

what you want to read if you have him cheap

Ike Davis admitted Friday that he was fatigued last season due to the effects of Valley Fever.
Davis downplayed the condition last year, but he's finally ready to admit that it probably played a part in his terrible start to the season. "I had to limit a lot of things last year as far as workload," Davis said. "I didn’t have a beer all of spring training last year. I went home and laid on the couch. And I usually fish for another six hours every day [after Mets workouts]. Davis eventually rallied to hit 27 of his 32 homers after June 11, with him starting to regain his strength no doubt playing a part. Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com writes that Davis has "infinitely more energy now," so perhaps the 25-year-old will improve upon that .227 average to go along with his nice power numbers. If you owned Ike in a 12-team NL (high inflation) for $5 in an option year would you (a) extend him to $15 (thru 2015) (b) extent him to $10 (thru 2014) or (c) ride him out in 2013 at $5?

If I owned him I would take him to $15. Still great value to keep and will add to his trade value in the event that you would have to go that route.

Oh hell, he'll earn 15 dollars all day long...I'd do that.

BTW, nice Post JJ...it just show that all athletes are congenital liars, until something can no longer hurt them. From the Goldschmidt thread, people were posting quotes from Davis that he felt great, didn't know that all the fuss was about...typical BS. I suppose that if I had millions on the line, I'd twist my words when necessary as well...

Thanks. I was inclined to only go to $10 since I have Rizzo at $5 and a host of other undervalue players to make a run. Will have to rethink this.
