Thank you to all those who offered feedback on Jackson - Like most, I'm stunned by the K's last season - everything I have read indicates he's a really decent athlete and has the makeup to make the necessary adjustments so I will keep my fingers crossed.

It's very common for athletes (not baseball players who are polished, but guys who have off-the-charts athleticism) to have 4 great tools (power, speed, arm, field) and still fail to make it in the majors because their hit tool is an atrocity. That's who Jackson was last year, but he's still young enough that it's too early to give up on him.

Now, that said, a couple months ago, Jason Parks was trying to find a good example of a toolshed guy who was a complete disaster in the low minors but still made it, and he couldn't think of one. Nobody that couldn't hack it in rookie ball. Even guys who struggled in the minors usually hit when they first got there. Jackson DID hit when he first got there (.330 in the NWL in 2009) so that means there's hope.

But this isn't an auction, it's a serp draft. And in 18 years of playing pretty much re-draft leagues using a serp draft, I had never heard of this rule until here on RJ.

I agree with Hammer, I also think it's ridiculous. And old fashioned.

I don't think it matters whether it is a draft or an auction.

Thank God, almost done. I'd like to thank the guys who stayed with it all the way and paid attention, these things really don't serve much of a purpose without you.

Weapon 1, thanks again for trying to keep track of things at the very chaotic time of this draft, it's much appreciated.

Piney, great job as usual guiding and gently cajoling people along.

And Hammer and Frank...sometimes I swear that you're the same guy on different coasts. If you ever meet I fear something bad will happen to the universe...like when you meet yourself in time travel.

Youre right. Its ridiculous either way.

Still waiting to hear a good reason supporting starting lineups being filled out first.
After former Broncos quarterback Brian Griese sprained his ankle and said he was tripped on the stairs of his home by his golden retriever, Bella: “The dog stood up on his hind legs and gave him a push? You might want to get rid of that dog, or put him in the circus, one of the two.”

There is no logic to it as there is no logic to any fantasy baseball rule. Different leagues do it different ways and it does change things quite a bit. I prefer that teams have to pick their team before their reserves so that I can plan my picks by the open positions that need to be selected. I think that their is a strategy to this which makes the auction/drafts more fun.

Good point...why do many roto leagues mandate having 2 catchers? It's about as silly a rule as I can possibly think of...why not 3 shortstops? And I really don't care about why the "founding fathers" decided to do it decades ago, it was silly then, and it's silly now.

That said, I'l, always vote to have the starters filled out before the reserves are allowed...

                        • My main league, which has been in existence since the mid 80s, has always had one catcher. It was founded before there was too much publicity about the Founding Fathers and their format. A lot of our rules have evolved over time to better harmonize with standard fantasy baseball formats, but that's not one of them.

Geez Steve...I'm just like the Fonz....chillin & grinnin brutha

Pete and I have disagreed a few times over the years - we've always agreed to disagree, it's never escalated or gone personal - seems to be a pretty good egg.

Anyway - I think Pete is just stirring the pot on the draft order discussion because he Fubard his pick...he knew the rules.
Revo on the other hand is just being ornery and a f'n Red Ass.....LOL

                              • I think Revo and Piney timed out yesterday, putting JonCarlos on the clock until 3 pm. If you saw Piney's message you'll realize time is at a premium for him these days, so please make your picks to finish up your teams so he can get the teams on Yahoo.
