    • Well, by putting the Mets in Florida, the strategy of deGrom and four days of rain might come close to passing.

      • Whatever MLB decides, they need to come up with a plan soon, like in 2-3 weeks. Figure they come up with something by May 1st, which then gets the approval of the health authorities. Two weeks to apply the logistics and get everyone to their new home, then 2 weeks of quarantine, then 2 weeks of spring training. That gets us to mid-June. The more they bicker about plans or other solutions, the more we're looking at July as a start date, or worse.

I don't think it's a case of bickering. I don't think anyone knows enough about the pandemic situation to make decisions at this point. Tossing around possible scenarios is all anyone can reasonably do right now.

There are sports being played in other countries as we speak (Turkey, for one).

If things calm down elsewhere, why not play there? Australia, New Zealand, Mexico....who knows.

They probably wouldn’t want to risk importing players in who could be contaminated, but as long as they test negative, it might be able to work.
I gotta say, MLB has been reading my posts on RJ:

As Major League Baseball considers various options for the 2020 season amid the coronavirus pandemic, one idea reportedly discussed involved playing games in a different country.

Per ESPN's Tim Kurkjian, one MLB source told him two weeks ago "we're going to play in Japan" because of the speed at which that country has been able to flatten the curve during the pandemic:

"The Japanese league is going to get through this faster than America's going to get through it. The Japanese league is going to play at night and the major leagues are going to play during the day in Japanese stadiums and that's how we are going to get this thing started."

Apparently they didn't read the posts where you said that there would absolutely be NO season this year.

                • Passan says the Florida-Arizona plan isn't going to fly. He says it is Zona only or bust, at least for the first 2-3 months. I'm not sure how they play enough games there with the limited number of stadiums. I also don't know how they move them back home in the frigid temps after they start in Zona and play there still Septmember.

                    Four team doubleheaders?

I think there are 10 stadiums plus maybe the Diamondbacks park. They could play a morning game and a night game in each. Or morning/afternoon. Not sure what time is optimal to avoid the heat. Maybe start at midnight. Haven't spent a lot of time thinking about it, but the stadium situation is probably the least of the obstacles.

edit: Never mind my math was off. It's too damn late to be doing math.

                          • The WWE was just declared an essential service in Florida, soooo, yeah, that is happening. It will be back on TV. We at least know Florida would let whatever happen whenever, if baseball wants to go there.

How many people are associated with a WWE card? It's gotta be at least 50. So if the WWE could do it, why not MLB in an empty stadium?

Starting to get the sense MLB will be back sooner (starting up ST in mid-to-late May) rather than later.

I agree - though Rob Manfred will need some pretty big stones to do it. 99+% of this could go right, but imagine a scenario where Justin Verlander falls ill and has a moderately bad outcome - ends up on a ventilator, but survives. I really doubt Rob Manfred's career survives that kind of outcome.
