After two consecutive seasons of 30+ HRs and around a 120 OPS+, he hit the skids like no one's business, finishing his disastrous campaign with a .157/.281/.270 line. He sprained his right wrist early in the season, but after coming back did nada and was chased by Keston Hiura. After a successful stint in the minors, he was given a second chance and flopped badly again, and that as they say was that.
He recently said:
“Never been more motivated,” Shaw told reporter Robert Murray via text. “Can’t wait for 2020 to start. Someone is gonna get lucky.”
Does anyone believe him? He'll likely get a chance to start somewhere on a 1-year deal. I'd definitely take a later round flier on him, but another slow start and his new team might pull the ripcord real quick.
