Most pitchers would be packing their bags if they lost 6 mph from their fastball. Chapman has a little more wiggle room. I've been worried about him since he gave up 2 runs to the Indians in game 7 of the 2016 world series and was shown afterward in the dugout rubbing his shoulder. Cubs manager Joe Maddon treated Chapman like the rental that he was down the stretch and during the post-season that year.

    • Phillies led, 6-4, thru 5 innings today after a Friday off, so let's see:

Nicasio a scoreless 6th, Alvarez and Neshek share a scoreless 7th.

at 7-4, Seranthony cruises thru the 8th.

Phillies get a run and have first and second, 2 out in 8th, so they pinch-hit for Seranthony.

and here comes Robertson in the 9th for the non-save chance.

        • Holy Crap! Josh Hader just threw a perfect inning with 3 K's on 9 pitches (all fastballs) for the save!

Very few relievers are so damn good, they transcend the position to be one of the best/most valuable pitchers in the game--up there with top starters. Hader is in that league right now. Dude is scary good.

            • wait, Josh Hader is up there with guys like Scherzer or deGrom?

would anyone ever get a hit off those guys if they had Hader's workload?

and if Hader could be even two-thirds as good as either of them as a starter, then the Brewers are the dumbest baseball franchise on Earth for leaving him in the bullpen. it could cost them World Series championships.

Hader is a spectacular reliever, but ....

Gearrin doesn't sound appealing. Don't they have someone better than him?

Yes, you do. Three Ks on nine pitches are called Immaculate Innings.

It's a great trivia question to ask who owns the only Immaculate Inning in World Series history.

                        • Hunter Strickland has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 strain of his right lat.
He won't need surgery, but a Grade 2 strain is going to result in a lengthy absence for the Mariners closer. Anthony Swarzark (shoulder) is slated to be activated from the injured list Tuesday and would figure to be the favorite for saves once he gets up to speed. In the meantime, Nick Rumbelow, Zac Rosscup, Cory Gearrin and Matt Festa are names to speculate on if you're really desperate.

Just FYI, MLB.com says Strickland is out a minimum of “a couple of months.”
