While we're on the subject, Hicks' line for tonight: 2ip, 0h, 0bb, 4k. Got six batters in 19 pitches, 15 for strikes. He's trending up.

    • Not a closer candidate yet but the Nats' Justin Miller is doing a pretty good "Sir Anthony" impression so far. After tonite 's perfect inn. in which he struck out the side, he's pitched 10 inn., given up no runs, no BBs and only 1 hit and K'ed 20. Lifetime ERA is 4.53 but K-rate has always been good at 9.71 and above avg velo at 94.2 so one to keep an eye on.

edit: He pitched another 2/3 inn tonite in which he gave a hit but no runs and K'ed 1 more.

Takes one guy out of the equation but this still seems to be a cloudy situation. Dominguez is the best reliever but they seem to like him as a fireman rather than the true closer. Ramos might get some chances, maybe Morgan if lefties are coming up.

          • Kelvin Herrera to the Nats for minor leaguers. Who closes for KC now? Adam? McCarthy? (I just dropped him)

            • LGarcia also on DL for Philly, so Seranthony and ERamos step forward. of course they still have Tommy Hunter, Neshek is a couple of weeks away from a return, and Kapler likes to throw in random guys so.....

              • Kelvin Herrera to WAS for prospects.
In the best of times, our days are numbered, anyway. And it would be a crime against Nature for any generation to take the world crisis so solemnly that it put off enjoying those things for which we were presumably designed in the first place, and which the gravest statesmen and the hoarsest politicians hope to make available to all men in the end: I mean the opportunity to do good work, to fall in love, to enjoy friends, to sit under trees, to read, to hit a ball and bounce the baby.

                • Some bad blown saves tonite:

                  1) Romo - Gave up 2 R on 2 H and a BB to blow a 1-run lead and lose the game while getting only 1 out.
                  2) Strickland - Blew a 2-run lead in the 9th. GAve up 3R, 3H and 2BB while getting only 1 out.
                  3) Arano - Philly went to him instead of Sir Anthony and he gave up a 2R and 2H to blow a 2-run lead. But they won in extras anyway as non-closer Matt Bowman blew a 1-run lead in the 10th and lost it.

                  • Sir Anthony was not available, and Arano struck out the side. he threw 2 filthy 3rd strikes that bounced, but the second one allowed a run to score and the runner to reach, and then Gas Can Morgan blew the SV. in NL-only, monitor Arano (pains me to say - owning Sir Anthony, ERamos, reserved Neris and Neshek in a no-bench league)

My bad. Morgan got the BS. I didnt see it but Arano was charged w a WP on the 3 K and the batter reached to keep the inning going. Then they pulled him.

                      • Brandon Morrow says he felt back spasms "taking my pants off" at "like 3 a.m." on Monday morning after #Cubs flew back from Sunday night game in St. Louis.

[my comment: I hope she was worth it! btw, Morrow won't pitch tonight, either]
